Overcoming slumps and burnout periods...

We all get to that point where we've been working at a goal for so long and pushing our bodies for so long, that we get burnt out. The grind of meal prep, and finding time to get in all your meals during the day....along with putting in 110% in all your workouts no matter how tired you are from work. I can honestly say myself that I've had the bodybuilding blues a few times. Just dragging myself to the gym, with total lack of energy and motivation, slacking on my diet, slacking on cardio, skipping a workout, etc...The slumps can last for days, weeks, or even months...

You should always have a goal in mind....but how long can you really work towards that goal before you need a break?

What do you do to get back into it and get yourself motivated? How do you get all the cylinders firing again?

New routine?
New diet?
More gear?
Less gear?
Take a week or 2 off training?

Let's hear your strategies....it may just help out others who read this as well :)

I'm sorry dude... 26yrs of training and I've never felt what you speak of.... and that's the truth!

Yes, I have down days, but that's all they are... days... never weeks and certainly never months...

My passion for this game is stronger now than ever, I'm constantly evolving, learning and changing my goals, but the bigger picture stays the same.

My role model 26yrs ago was Frank Zane, and that remains the goal, I'm fortunate that my role model maintained amazing shape and proportions way into his later years. So my aims and objectives simply become extended.

Next year will be the crowning moment, when I step on stage for the first time... so maybe, just maybe, I will stall afterwards.

But I know myself, I know the type of guy I am, and I'm fucking positive (health permitting) I will be smashing this game when I'm 70.

I live this!

Those days are behind me. When I hit 30 I looked back on a decade of inconsistency and cringed at how fast time goes by and that I really blew a chance to attain new heights. I dont regret it to much , I had fun. I had some great times and did pretty well with the ladies. Of course I was always getting side tracked by that stuff. I worked 2 jobs. Got sick 2-3 times a year cause I was burning the candle at both ends.
So after The Decade of Inconsistency I decided to embark on The Decade of Fitness. From30 to 34 I did ok. I was consistent . I was getting bigger and strong. By 34 I hit the wall. Low T. Gear came into play and it was a major jump start. Now Im 42 and I am doing great. Having the fun in the weight room I missed when I was in my 20s.

I have had a day or two of a slump. I consider getting sick a slump. Takes a week to feel better and I just go back but start off lifting light.

Of course this doesn't apply to you....I was referring to normal humans, you're half machine ;)

I get this usually once a year. I usually take a period of time off, usually a month and not really train much and eat whatever I want. Then I start to itch and its back at it full blown!!

I take a week off every two-three mths myself with my very demanding job 10'hrs Ed and labor it's good for my body and mind for the reset

Klonopin is the answer to your problems. Not something to be taken everday. I'll come back to it once or twice a year for about a month. Great for "slumps". Plus docs hand it out like candy.

with the coupled bjj and s&c training im doing right now, im doing about 3 s and c and 6-8 2 hour bjj sessions a week..

heres what happens when you overtrain.. I currently suffer from IT band syndrome.. right and left ac joint seperation.. meniscus inflammation on both knees.. sore right rotator cuff.. good old tendonitis

hyper externstion of my T3-4 cervical.. and a slightly out of place floating rib

taking time off is extremely important..

im a competitior, and this is almost the end of competition season..

ive done 5 tournaments in 10 weeks.. i got two more to go before the end of the year.. possibly 3..

then i get to be a lazy bastard in january lol
