hahaha yeah. Get your spotter to lift some of the weight too.

lol. Then you can say you benched 300lbs.

Just keep training. You will be there if you want it enough.

congrats on your pr . thats still a lot of heavy reps before a pr attempt , for a 300 attempt i would have done something like this .
barx20
135x12
185x6
225x4
250x1
275x1
300x1
im guessing if you did 255x6 and 285x3 and you were still able to get 300x1 you could have gotten at least another 5 or 10 pounds more if you hadnt done so many heavy reps first .your basicly doing a workout before a pr attempt , try doing a good warmup similar to my example followed by a pr attempt then drop down and get your reps in .

When I start closing in on heavier weights I lower the reps also on warmups, I do 225x5 slow and I do 315x1 slow (I do all of them slow anyway though).

Thanks again guys! You rock! Also this is the beginning of my 4th week on a 400mg Test only cycle. So I hope the gains keep coming. Dawg- I will try that combo next monday. Maybe I will shoot for 315lbs!!! That shouldnt be unreachable if I do the right combo of warmups.

Going from 300 to 315 is no joke, unless you are on one hell of a stack I would not advise it. I can do 5, sometimes 10 pound jumps, but the last time I tried a 10 pound jump well - now I'm playing catch up and lost about 5 weeks of my heavy lifting from it.

hende you dont need to be maxing out every week either. you gonna get injured. maxing out should be done no more than once a month at your level of lifting. leave you ego at the door and train smart.

mudge to answer you question on gene's shirt...... does it matter what he was wearin? but for the record he claims its a dbl ply poly by inzer. phil told me he picked it up and checked it out and it appears to be just that. its called a phemom by inzer. kinda unique in that its a open back poly. not many of those around. usually the denims and the canvas' are open back. but you know what? regardless of the shirt the man took 965 down and up under strict judging. if you feet move, you ass comes off the bench or uneven lockout you get redlighted. how many guys that strict at the gym? the bar has to be motionless at the bottom as well before the head judge gives the press command too.

ive got a open back poly and im experimenting with one of the new titan furys the back is stretchy almost like t shirt material and the front is poly but not as stretchy as inzer blast material imo .

Beeeeeeelieve me, I'm not about to discount his lift, I was simply curious because I was told quad ply was not legal in competition but thats supposedly what he used for his 900 lift. I had heard a few months ago he was gunning for 1000, supposedly the big guy at my gym (Olympic shotputter) 'knows him.'

I agree on not maxing out every week, I did that for around 5 weeks and eventually it took a toll on me. Right now I am trying to recoup so I am going no heavier than about 4 reps and really trying to stay 6-8 until I really feel better.

I know and I never used to its just I am pushing more weight and I am getting real pysched!

Trust me I am 0% ego. I have so far to go its a joke.
Thanks for all the comments guys!

I have my little max chart in the back of my book so I know if I do 3 reps of something right about where my strength is. I lose around 10 pounds or so off my projected max between lifts, depending on rest period, how I feel, yada yada.

ok, question - i did a double wth 365 this evening and when i let go of the bar i felt the most intense pain in both my elbows, on the outside AND inside (like golfers and tennis elbow combined). it went away after 30 mins but i didnt feel up to dong any more work

something tells me i'll not be benching with the bar for a couple of weeks :(

what do you guys think about usng the hammer strength iso chest as a bench subsitute? dips and dbs are out because they'll need to be gripped hard but with the hammer i can use a looser grip & hopefully not make things worse

fuck.. just when things were going well too :p

Yeah my right elbow and wrist are not happy with heavy weights right now, for me a double is about as heavy as I will go and I am doing increased warmups right now to even allow that.

I dont like ANYTHING where I start at the positive and I dont like machines in general, IMO just go lighter and do plenty of warmups. Thats just me, but I will NOT use any machines for pressing. If I ever used a machine again, I would be willing to do smith inclines.
