Powerlifting Meet Prep

Its ok. I knew injury was a risk going into this. Really missed out though. Was going to get a free trip to meet some people in Europe if the meet went well. My doctor told me he thought it was related to the antibiotics i was taking to get rid of a staff infection two weeks prior. They supposedly reduce tendon strength but it is not well advertised because it does not effect most people. Well... I'm not most people.

Might have to do my first Bodybuilding contest instead. Your body only has so many big lifts in it. I'm 5'8" 315ish at 20%. Theoretically I could be 270 at 10% which would be huge, but you never know til the weight starts coming off.

I don't compete by any means, but that's the direction I'm headed. You're one big sob as I only weigh 50lbs more than you, but I'm a foot taller haha. 900lb squats are no joke, and you certainly have bragging rights my friend. On the bright side, while I found powerlifting to be more intense - I do think body building is more rewarding in its own right. I wish you godspeed man and a quick recovery!

Oh, and I had never heard about antibiotics doing that to tendons. You know, when I got hurt I think I had just finished a round of them too for a case of pneumonia...

Thanks man. You're 6'8"?! You would tower over me.

They are two different sports that deserve respect in their own rights. I dont understand the hostility between powerlifters and bodybuilders. "Powerlifters are fat", "Bodybuilders are gay"... Its like an arguement over who has the biggest dick.

Yeah, do a google search for antibiotics effect on tendon strength. I wish i would have.

Going back to 250 a week to cruise on while i heal up. Anything you would take to recover from surgery faster?

I'm a hair over 6'7", but I bet you're wider than I am! (Not in a bad way either) I do agree that there is a silly amount of hostility between the two groups which I find to be crazy given they both have similar goals in a way. To make the human body as best as it can be - while one is for strength and the other is for aesthetics, I find it to be a very similar mindset. I'll definitely have to google that as I am really starting to wonder now!

I really suck in my peptide knowledge, but I can say that you want to get off the pain meds as soon as you can as you don't want to be fighting that addiction along with everything else going on. I had a VERY generous doctor that made sure I had a never-ending fountain of oxycodone/oxycontin/hydrocodone and was surprised when I ended up hooked on the damn things. Ibuprofen and alternating hot/cold seemed to help a lot, but I'd imagine TB500 or maybe some of the growth hormones could help? I'd have to leave that one to the pros that roam the peptide forums though.

Oh, and word to the wise: When you first start walking again, WATCH THOSE CURBS. Not all painted "curbs" are actually higher in elevation, so while we take those for granted when able footed, you're going to be in tremendous pain when you step down hard expecting an extra 6" in space under your foot. I know the first time I did this outside a Home Depot, I was in tears as I felt every damn nerve ending telling me I should watch where I step! :p

Thanks for the advice! I have a hefty supply of oxycodone. Ill be sure to use sparingly. Right now i would rather be addicted than in pain though. This is horrible.

I've been told that knee injuries are the second most painful you can experience. I shudder to think how a full-on back injury would be (that's supposedly #1) given how bad knees are. Don't worry about the meds yet - it's once you're done with surgery and recovering that you'll need to be careful. Just be sure to up your fiber as they can back you up. ;)

Oh man, now I'm having flashbacks! Bring your crutches with you and you're going to have to learn how to steady yourself with a crutch while wiping your ass. It REALLY sucks at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. You might find yourself becoming phobic about falling or being on the floor though. It only takes one time to give you that fear, at least it did with me. My surgeries (injured right knee lifting 720lb roll of wire, then left knee was hurt because I was putting all my body weight on it for so long) were in 2002 and 2003, but I am still leery about getting up from the floor haha. :o

308... I hope you feel better... I'm sorry to hear about the injuries, I was really hoping for the best!!! This happened at the meet?
