the wabdl southeastern regionals bench and deadlift contest was held saturday . tiny meeker opened at 744 on bench and he smoked it , he then called for a 804 for his second attempt but they screwed up and misloaded the bar to 826 , he came close but couldnt lock it out .between the near 100 degree heat [ contest was outside ] and all the effort he wasted at 826 he couldnt come back and get the 804 on his other attempts .
another amazing lift was a 19 year old weighing 132 pounds opened at 501 lbs on deadlifts and made his first 3 attempts , i didnt get his exact lift for his 3rd but it was around 560 pounds . thats a quaddruple bodyweight deadlift
i also saw a man 47 year old man weighting 240 deadlift 722? and he could barely walk the day before .
i know in a way this isnt exactly about training , but im telling you right now if your having a hard time staying motivated in the gym go to a powerlifting contest and watch all the iron being thrown around and you will be one motivated son of a gun in the gym when you get back , in fact if your training partners didnt go to he may want to quit lifting with ya because he cant keep up;)

Damn dude I got off fina for ONE week, and tried to add 10 pounds to my previous max bench, came up half way and held it solid but ended up hurting myself on the way down because my left arm moved about 1/2". I blew out the rest of my workout from that ONE screwup, so going for 20 pounds over max attempt and almost coming through is just nuts.

I now have to admit, fina caugh or not, that 5-10 minutes of shit is worth the strength.
