hey guys/gals, i just gotta question. I've been training for about a year and a half now. I'm happy with my strength but i wanna be able to get the 100's up on the falt dumbell bench. I know this is a pretty easy exersise, but my question is that i can get the 85's up for 8 reps. Do you guys think that i would be able to put the 100's up by august?
thnx

well, i went from doing the 50's to 80's in about 2 1/2 months.

my diet it pretty good, and i'm going on another cycles of creatine, which last time boosted my strength like crazy

If you are doing the 85's for 8 right now, you shouldn't have a problem by August. It depends on you. I would go ahead and grab the 100's every once in awhile to prep your body for that kind of weight. You should be able to get at least a set of 3-4 now. To get stronger, you need to keep putting on the weight.

you need to start working out with heavier weights if you want to push those, not just doing sets of 8. Try the 90's for a sets of 5 or 6, and then the 95's. You need to do lower reps if you want to get stronger. At least most of us do.

yea, i'm in the process of bulking now, and plan to put on about 15 pounds over the next few months, so that should help in being able to get up to the 100's. OH yea there aren't any 95's any more. Someone slammed them on the ground and they busted!@!

Just get the rubberized pussified weights like we've got at the rec here.:( :(

I've just started a new diet (bulking, thanks Therm) and i think this should help the process of getting those 100's up. And i started a new program to shock the hell out of my body. I'll keep it posted

100's? I spin 100's on my finger like a basketball!

Hahaha, kidding, relax!

Just get them up and dont worry so much.

You should be able to perss 100's once at least with no spot right now.

Lower your reps to 4 or 5 per workset, and you will increase strength at a much quicker pace.

This is what has worked for me. When I was doing 8-10 reps for my exercises, I progressed much slower. Ever since I lowered them to 5 per workset, my numbers are gone up my quicker in every lift, not only dumbell presses.

Oh, and a tip....

Give time to your muscles progress on their own, and don't get frustrated when you cannot increase the weight right away. I've never really liked setting time tables for myself to increase the weight on my lifts. I let it come when I feel I'm totally ready. It will come, as long as the training is down pat along with the recovery and nutrition.

Take it from me, it will save you much stress and frustration as long as you don't rush into things. You will be much happier in the long-run.

Josh81 i totally know what you're talking about when you say don't rush into things. I made sure to prepare myself mentally for that.

haha, gloden_muscle i've only been training for a year man!

i think you would be able to get it up for a couple reps.. how do u feel by ur 8th rep with the 85's?

do u have the little 2.5 lb magnets at your gym that you can attach the the end of a dumber??

the last rep on the 85 is a little struggle, but i can get past the sticking point with no problem

nahh we don't have those, our dumbells are like 100 years old!
