Question for SWALE re: antibiotics

Hi Dr. Swale,

would minocycline 100mg for 10 days be a good choice to clear up/prevent some AS induced acne?

I also have some seborreic dermatitis on my scalp and I have been told that minocycline can also clear this up, is that correct? If I could kill two birds with one stone, so to speak, that would be ideal.

I thought Minocycline was anti-anabolic and not a good choice for acne?

Hootie I think the anti-catabolic effect is minimal, there is a good discussion of this in this thread -

Minocycline is indeed a good choice. It is very effective against infections caused by organisms which are resistant to other tetracyclines.

Don't worry about any negative effects of antibiotics on muscle growth: if you have an infection bad enough to take an antibiotic, then that needs to be taken care of first.
