questions about carb loading for a show??

while dieting for a show my trainer insists YUKON GOLD POTATOES... well, i dehydrate well on potatoes, but they don't really make my muscles their fullest, hardest or give me that crazzy full shred i want onstage.

but any day i eat wild/brown rice, oatmeal, no-yolk pasta or yams and i blow up and am ripped. my problem is while dieting, potatoes are about the only carb that helps me to lose the subcutaneous water on my body. i tried using other carbs early in the diet, but the subcue water won't leave my body!!! i have a few questions that i'd like to pose for those who are experienced or knowledgable.. and then i'll tell you why.

what is your fav carb/s for dieting & dehydrating up until the carb loading stage of contest prep?

what carbs do you carb load with just before the show? any special loading method?

if you can, can you explain how you manage your water intake when going into carb loading for the show?

i just did my third show and my trainer once again dictated yukon gold potatoes. i had been on very restricted carb intake for about 6 weeks (yes, yukon gold potatoes)--i mean approximately 30-40g (weight on the scale).. every 3 hours.
my trainer titrated my daily water intake to 13L per day (yes, that's not a typo.. drinking that much was a fucking job)... and for the record.. it was distilled water.
on the day i was to quit drinking at 9pm, he started raising my carbs at 6pm by an ounce each meal and decreasing the same in protein at the same time. i cut my water at 9pm and was on full carb meals a couple hours later (yes, STILL yukon gold potatoes)..
i was allowed nothing to drink until about an hour before the show. NOTHING.. not a sip or anything. in fact, not allowed to even use toothpaste because of the sodium.
so about an hour before the show, he allows me 1/3 can of coke with each of my next two carb meals which were now an hour apart, but smaller in size (approx 100g yukon gold fucking potato).
about 12-20min before going out on stage i had about 500ml of water with a marsbar.. and i to my horror, i felt flat (i wasn't, but i wasn't fully loaded either)..cuts were not as deep as they could have been and i was not happy.
two days later i looked awesum.. shredded to ribbons.. and at this point, i was drinking (distilled) water altho still eating very clean and still tapering off the dandelion root capsules.
i am thinking i was too restricted with carb intake when i started carb loading.. and not only was it not enough to fill the muscle bellies while i was getting ready to cut my water, but another carb would have been a better choice since potatoes are known not to make me look my best (altho as i said, they work well in my diet working up to the contest). other shows i used them i looked far better, but my carbs had never been that restricted up until the carb load before.
i understand many people drink restricted amounts of water all the while carb loading.. i can't help but believe this is right.. but my trainer says that this will make me hold water. i would totally discount him, except that he is a reknown builder and this system works infallibly for him..
being a woman, i am tending to fight a bit more with water retention, even tho i am discontinuing my estrogen 6 weeks before stepping on stage (i take mine orally now).
i never want that to happen again.. i just would love to take a consensus here.. because THIS is the time for me to experiment. i'd like to do my next show in oct/07.
i would think i'd be best to use potatoes up until i'm ready to carb load.. start dieting earlier than 12 weeks to ensure i don't have to greatly restrict my carb intake to that small amount again.. and then change my carb to rice or something when carb loading.. the water part i'm not sure about yet.. but does this sound remedial and plausible?
i'm sorry if this is a bit confusing.. but thanks for your feedback in advance.
 
Hi Ev! I understand you having doubts about your coaches.....I have some about mine as well!!!

Since I'm only at week 13 all I can say is my favorite carb I am allowed at this point in time is popcorn.

Not at that point yet....but I'm hoping I can load on cupcakes and red wine....and yes I've heard of pros doing that! :)

Not quite there yet!

Why distilled....I've never heard of someone going that strict with water! And 13 litres per day???? My coaches told me I would be at 6-9 closer to contest date but 3-4 is fine for now! 13 seems extreme......even for a male! What's the point of that much?

I have a fear of this happening also! Obviously the carb loading method your coach is using for you needs tweeking!

You've just come off a major diet remember.......I'd hate for you to be overdieted for the Oct show!

one of my buddies did a show a while ago and he Said he looked twice as good about a day or so after the show as he did showtime because of his carb intake. I think its a give and take with each person. Have you told them about how you feel with some of this and see if there can be a bit more tweaking?

rage: yes, i've talked to him about it.. but he doesn't work with me on off-season.. and near a show he doesn't really want to experiment too much.. so i'm pretty much on my own. i can't afford to hire him year round.

Carb up on what you used during your diet. I do limit the amount of Potato during a carb load because of the amount of Potasium (remember some diuretics are potasium sparing and serious complications occur.) I personally like Brown Rice or White Rice, Rice Cakes, Jams, Peanut Butter, Reeces Pieces, and Vitargo. I won't tell you how it goes together but you can see the results in a few days with RJ.

DRY CARBS ARE BEST!!!! You are trying to pull sub q water from the skin. You need Water and Carbs to form glycogen. If you are properly doing your water those carbs you ingest need to get water from some where so they scavage from the sub q stores.

If your carb loading you can not cut your water or sodium, if you do you can not properly carb load. You need all of them. You just have to know how to cut the water out and how to continue to introduce carbs to get the desired effect.
