Lately I've seen a lot of guys doing heavy weights but not really getting the pull range of motion. Some guys benching have heavy weights but the weight only goes down about 4-5 inches bfore they are pushing it back up.

What gives? All lifts I do are a complete range of motion and If I can't do a full range I go lighter until I can.

Any thoughts?

if you are doing them as assistance work then thats fine , if your replaceing actual squatting, benching, etc. with half reps its not okay

I think they are half reps in my book . . .

I don't see the advantage?

if ou are weak at lockout then doing reps at the top might increase your lockout , similar to board presses for bench . i also think heavy partial squats helps you get the feeel of heavier weight on your back .

Oh I get it. I've seen some mates load the bar heavy (600 lbs) and simply rest it on their shoulders. Must be the same idea. Sounds like it has it's benefits . . .

as long as its used to supplement your real workout and not replace it i dont see a problem with it . some competeing powerlifters use partials in squats and rack pulls for deadlifts and others dont , almost all have gone to some form of lockout training for bench such as boards or rack lockouts or floor presses , these emphasize the triceps .

once a month i put the racks up high and prctice lockouts... but never cheat on the three core moves you can never get stronger without the full range

Thanks Mate. I think I may try these once and a while to see how well it works
