Hello everyone. I'm new to this board and had a couple of questions. I lifted from around 13 years of age till around 26. I have cycle experience from 23-25. I left weightlifting when work, family and life became too busy.

I am now an old man of 36 years. I have been back lifting for 8 months and have regained a majority of the strength I had when I was younger. I am currently benching close to 400, squating 605 for a double and can pull around 575.

I am eager to get back into cycling in hopes of competing in some powerlifting, strong man, and scottish highland games events.

My main question is since I am older, my joints have turned to absolute shit. Every week it seems some new pain occurs. I worked through a pulled pec two months ago. Had bicep tendonitis for about 5 weeks. Now my outer elbow/tricep hurts. It's taken some time to recover and work around these injuries.

Like I stated earlier that I'm eager to get back into heavier lifting and competition, but should I wait until my ailments have subsided to begin cycling, or since I'm older is this just stuff I'll have to deal with on a permanent basis?

Funny thing is I had a L5-S1 back fusion when I was 30 and I can squat without pain, it's my damn elbows, shoulders, and pec insertion causing me issues.

I apologize for the long winded post and appreciate the help and information.

With the weight your lifting theres a good chance that joint pains not going away. I supplement with glucosamine/msm and that helps some. If you cycle you could run test/deca. Deca is known to ease joint pain while on cycle.

There is a sticky on the forum home page that might be useful. "Some AAS cause Cartelidge Synthesis" or something like that. really good article. I dont want to repoeat it becuase it has already been written down, but basically the article talks about the compounds that actually improve joint and tendon health and what compounds you woudl need to stay away from or stack with compounds that actiually help.

I just came off a Tren and Test cycle and the Tren freaking killed my joints becuase is supressed my bodies ability to stegthen them...

At 36 yrs old why are you even attempting to lift heavy? and how are you planning to compete in a strong man contest? Your competition will be teens and early 20's. I hate to say it, But i believe you have missed your window of opportunity. I speak from experience at 47 yrs old. The joint pains you feel now are warning signs. Push to much weight and you'll start to feel like you are 80.. Steroids will give you a False sense of strength until something comes apart or breaks. Then your out of the game for good.

I disagree with this. My dad competed in strongman and highland games comps until his late 50's. No aas use. He did it to give him a goal-something to train for. He's in his mid 60's now and still lifts heavy and hard. It didn't matter that his.competition was younger or possibly stronger. He had a drive and will to better himself.

Age is just a number and if the OP wants to lift heavy and train for a comp, no one should tell him he's too old. I'm 4 years younger than he is. I guess in 4 years time, I should just hang up my hat and say f-it? No thanks. So, what is the magic age where we become too old to lift heavy?

Op, I will not give you cycle advice, but I will say that if competing is your goal, go for it and train hard. The younger guys you will be competing against will give you mad respect for staying in the game.

hey sally, first of all welcome! second, i agree, don't let your age stop you from striving for things. of course, the joint pains and such, like someone else mentioned, might not be going away. but then i have it on good authority that's why god created deca.
