Recommened Protein consumption per meal

Just read an article that states your body can only consume a certain amount of protien per meal.

Another very important tenet of gaining mass is that, while frequent protein consumption is important, over-consumption of protein can also be detrimental to muscle gains. Because your body can only process so much protein at one sitting (this amount varies from individual to individual), consuming too much protein taxes the liver and kidneys (since these organs need to metabolize, detoxify, and excrete the extra protein) and this invariably stunts the body's ability to synthesize new muscle. Remember, we don't want to draw valuable energy needed for protein synthesis to help and aid the digestion and detoxification of excess protein.

Does anyone have an idea on how much should be consumed I know it varys from each person but just say a 200lbs male for example?

assume protein per meal.
this statement assumes your body is goign to instantly ustilize what ever protein you give at that moment.

which is false.

all protein takes time to break down and utilize any were from 1hr - 8hrs depending on the protein source.

i personally wouldnt over worry about it.

no need to eat 100g a sitting, but dont limited your self to 23.735g a sitting either.

be sensable about your meal planning and take it from there.

Ditto on adid's response...
This theory always pops up every few months. I wouldn't say the article is wrong but it's a blanket statement and really depends on the person, routine, source, diet, etc. Alot of the times you hear about it is when people are asking about how many gram's of protein should be in their shakes. In my opinion, your shakes are a very easily broken down and quickly absorbed source so smaller amounts would be better. When eating a 16 oz steak or large chicken breast you have alot more protein but the source takes so long to break down and then absorb, are larger amount would be ok. Almost like taking a long acting or sustained realase sup...IMO

+1 to both.

while i have no idea what effect a humongous serving such as 200g of protein in 1 sitting would have - protein servings mildly in excess of the oft-quoted "30g every two hours" simply release hormones that slow the digestion process.

to make things simple i would just eat my protein for the day over the course of 3-5 meals.

Thats alright then it's not somthing I was gonna lose sleep over. I tend to spread my protein over 6 meals and seems to be working. Just another one of those articles that get you thinking, Cheers for the feedback guys.

The amount of protein your absorb is realtive. A 150 lber who doesn't workout isnt going to absorb the same amount of protein a 200 lb muscle man could. Spread out your protein and get approx 1.5 grams per lb daily. The myth that protein can destroy your kidneys is FALSE. I've been on a high protein diet for 7 years straight with no problems! This myth has been busted for a long time now but it still comes up for some reason.

Yeah I run a high protein diet and IMO its the best diet I have ever ran to the point its my way of life now, I'm clued up on the whole 1.5g per Lb of weight gimmick. My question was mainly based on the factors of for example if I was to consume X amount of protein per meal would Y amount of it be wasted.

OH ok i see. Who cares, spread it out, and eat it :D Better to eat too much than too little
