routines

Some guy was telling me about this routine where you do 1 set of 10-12 reps for everything you do. Also, you work every muscle including legs, shoulders, chest, back, ect in one workout and you do this workout everyday monday-thursday. I do not understand how this type of routine would ever work. Can anyone explain to me how it would work or am I not the only one who thinks this routine would not work?

check the guys credibility... besides that dorian yates did one working set for body parts.. but he did atleast two or three different exercises per body part.. it may work for him.. (i doubt it) however it will not work for just anyone.. so give it a try.. but i cant promise you that training the same areas on consecutive days is gonna give you progress

I dont think I would ever do this routine because I dont agree with it at all and plus im doing 5x5 which is working really well at this point. I am just wondering how this routine would work because this guy is always saying how great it is and I dont understand how it would be great. Any one else have an opinion on this?

Not sure how it would work. But I got a question for you. The guy that is telling you to do this how big is he and are you sure this is what he is doing.

He has decent size. He is an older guy so he cant lift as much as he did before. At his prime he benched around 375 and squated around 550. I'm only 19 and just recently got into this sport a few years ago so I'm trying to learn everything about it. I dont know this guy that good or if he has done it himself, but he says its a very successful routine that I should try sometime. This is why I brought this routine up on the board, so I can get some good advice on if this routine is legit.

Weight resistance will make you grow. Every possible routine has been tried many times by many various persons. This guy doesn't know any secrets, but if he found a routine that he grows on and makes him happy, then so be it. But, the overall subjective opinion of the majority of experiences lifters says that he has a very bad routine.

One thing we can learn from this guy is that time is important. Many guys lift for a few years and then disappear from the gym. This guy stuck to it, and that's great.

Why not try it, your 19 so you have plenty of time for different routines. Give it a shot and let us old timmers know how it works for you. Hell I might even want to try it.

the fact is MOST routines will work for a little while due to the change/shock your body fels from switching things up .

Everybody responds differently to different things (including routines) Even if this rountine is horrible for others it may work for you, it's just what your body responds to. But if you can get on a "better" routine, like the ones listed above in this forum you may respond better. If that makes sense. My friend lifts teice a day for 5 days, a total of 3 hours each day. Is he overtraining? Hell yeah. Is he getting results? Yeah, but those results will slow and he will eventually look into a better routine. But it's working for him right now, so he's occupied with that.

I am really likeing a POWERBULDING routine that combines both. 5x5 has worked for me so far. Im not sure if it is beacause it is fairly simple and allows you to focus on adding 5lbs a week or a rep or so....but it has worked best for me so far. On the other hand I have not tried a powerlifting specific routine yet but may next winter...

powerlifter53 you need to change your name if you doing the 5x5. thats not powerlifting. its bbing. =0)

Because I have only been in this sport a few years, I have not entered a powerlifting competition but do plan to in the near future. My goal for this winter is to add a good amount of mass and strength. After reading alot of success stories from the 5x5 I decided to try it. It has been great for me so far. I know you hate 5x5 but it has gave me some very good strength gains. After I am done with 5x5 I think I am going to try a true powerlifting routine such as some of the ones posted on this board.
