Hi All,
I've been getting sharp pains on my right shoulder when benching the last few workouts, so much so that i've had to decrease the poundage and i'm afraid that'll cut into my chest growth. Also getting to the point where i cant finish my shoulder workouts. Any ideas?

What part of the shoulder?? There's so many possibilities here that you've GOT to be able to pinpoint what part of the shoulder for us to try and help you.

front upper shoulder.... i always get the nagging pain now every time i try to rotate the arm

More of an internal or external pain? Is there any grinding in the joint or popping when you move it?

Also, lemme guess. You bench with the middle or ring finger on the ring in the bar, right?

thanks for the thread, very informative. In the meantime how should i treat my workout?

Do what you can do and do NOTHING that hurts that shoulder. Get out the therabands and work to strengthen it, esp if it is an internal injury. I'm guessing you bench too wide and that strained the anterior head of the deltoid, causing all this pain. Last year, I did this and went from a working weight of ~250 all the way down to being unable to do 135, just because I refused to take time off.

Check into prolotherapy. I screwed up both my shoulders and read about prolo - got em both fixed and back in the gym! Sure beats the hell out of surgery!

i also recommend prolotherapy. its a phenomenal treatment. however, it can be pretty expensive. you should give ART a try first. its very affordable, and unless you've got serious connective tissue damage, it should fix you right up. www.activerelease.com there is a link on there where you can search for a provider in your area. look for one who is level 3 certified, preferrably with a specialization in biomechanics. i'm been getting ART on virutally every part of body for about 3 years. i'd be a worthless hunk of meat without it.

well, if i was you id take 1 week off, and thats meaning TOTALLY off! nothing heavy at all, and dont do much of anything.
Then take a balm (donno the name, it loosens it up anyways.
Then go back and dont hit either the chest or shoulders hard for atleast 2 weeks, go very wasy on them. Hopefully it will be fine by now.

Tacke it easy cause if you fuck up the delts then you wont be able to do any upper body workout at all..... and that would suck wouldnt it?

I've had similar pain, had to take a week off felt better, but now the pain is coming back, I'm afraid it might be something more serious :(
