Hey guys, which diet plan would be better for an old beginner? I am interested in general appearence for now.

A little background; male 29 240lbs BF I would guess it to be about 25% (I'm fat as hell and not gonna take it anymore). I have developed a big gut, but the rest is just kind of sloppy, only hard when i flex. Arms 17'' legs 22'' calf 16'' chest 52''.
Played D end through college, but then I just ate anything i wanted and worked out with the team. I was 25lbs heavier with 10% less bf and thats my goal for next year.
I have been reading the forum and understand the two plans but can't decide if one would work better than the other and I know cardio cardio cardio and when i'm done with that more cardio. Thanks

You're going to have to make a decision of the type of physique you are looking for. Posting some pics would help so we could see.

It sounds like you need a general plan of getting into shape.

Quite honestly lift 4-5 times per week......do cardio at least 3 times with at least 2 HIIT sessions and start eating clean.

If you want to gain more muscle then eat more..........lose fat then eat less.

Within 6 weeks you'll probably lose a bit of fat with the "newbie" affect. Newbies tend to be able to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

I personally think you should do what I say and then bulk up for a bit and then cut. But I don't know how much muscle you already have so it's hard to say.

i think my head just asploded.

the existence of this thread shows me you have a gross misunderstanding of the concepts of "bulking" and "cutting".

lets take the information youve given us:
1. your main concern is appearance
2. youre "fat as hell"

and choose a course of action:
a. bulk - gain more weight, strength, muscle, and (in your case - most importantly) fat.
b. cut - lose fat, while trying to maintain muscle and strength.

im not sure where youre having trouble deciding which route to take.

granted, being a begnniner, simply cleaning up your diet and getting to the gym will improve your appearance, this wont happen forever, and eventually youll have to decide which way you want to go.

I understand them fine, just wasn't sure if I should put a litlle extra fat on right up front to regain some lost mass or wait untill the bf gets to about 10%.
I'll put you down as a stong cut.

^start eating clean and get back into training for 6 months and then assess where you stand... its hard to determine if you have been out of the game for a long time

theres really no need to be above about 15% bodyfat. the higher you get, the worse you partition calories. plus, if you are already sick of being fat, youll just hate it more and more everyday.

yep....strong cut lol.
