SLDL or..the other

not sure when to incorporate them both. i like to do both, generally doing SLDL for hams on leg day, then once in a while the regular deads for back, usually only doing any dead once a week now. can i run the risk of overtraining - especially in the back - by doing both once a week ? prolly directed more at you pullinbig since im working off your routine, but would appreciate advice from anyone. thanks.

Really I can only handle one deadlift-type movement a week. I'm an average guy with average recovery doing DC-type training.

Deads one week, rack pulls the next... doesn't leave room for SLDL's for me. Bummer, I loved them.

assy got a point. alternate them one each week on back day. (sl week1) (racks week2) (full pulls week3) i made note of that in the routine i posted i believe.

I do legs and lower back the same day. I do sldl first 1-2 warm ups and 2-3 work sets. Then i rest 5 min and do 2 warm sets of regular deads and then 2-3 work sets. My sets ends a rep or two before failure.

The Romanian Deadlift is a great compromising hybrid of the two movements. And it will actually do more towards improving your Conventional Deads than will SL's. Then make sure your quad days involve more upright stance squats and lunges and/or low foot positioned leg presses to prevent overtraining the posterior chain that's your focus on ham day.

thats not 100% true inject. if you are having more difficulty with lockouts on deads then sl's would be more beneficial, orrack pulls. if the bottom of the movment is where you are the weekest then rdl's will be more beneficial, along with heavy leg presses and hacks. (deep of course)
