Slight Incline Military Presses?

Hi all,

I just got a new bench/rack and while doing my military presses I found it was more comfortable doing military presses at a VERY SLIGHT incline position rather than straight 90 degrees angle because it puts less pressure on my lower back. This incline is more than a regular incline bench press position and can be seen at this website (the second to last position).

My question is doing military presses at a slight incline below 90 degrees counter-productive to the excercise or is this alright and work the same muscles? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

Will just hit more of the upper peck and less of the delt. Do it the way you feel comfortable. Something you might like is a standing front press or some call it a push press. Just stand and do the millitary press It will work more stabilizer muscles and will help with balance giving you more explosiveness. Just start with a light enough weight untill you get used to the movement. The better your balance the better you can apply your power effectively.

if your pressins w/ the front delt the incline allittle should be ok--unless you feel it in the upper peck--i have to put a 35lbs weight under my shoulder rack cause its to straight up and when i lift over 275 front seated press i would fall off the seat---i get under that wieght and most pressed was 330

330 eh, i smell shit, sniff sniff, yes definately bullshit.

i don't know where you train or how old you are but i don't consider 330 to be all that heavy or out of the realm of possiblity. Maybe at the local YMCA, but not at a real gym. Not that i could do it, but i sure as hell wouldn't be floored by it to see it.

same here..the less of an incline the more its similar to incline BB presses..i see so many using the wrong angles im not sure if theyre hitting chest or delts..i have to wait and see what they do next to tell what theyre trying to work..

I always take down the bench a notch when doing shoulder presses, the military bench has me so straight up i have to give a big arch in order to feel confortable. I never had a problem hitting my delts instead of chest. How do you do them? Now i do them off pins after bench. I know one of the 700 benchers in 275 lb class speaks very highly of them at bolex.

ive been hitting BB fronts but i do slide out a bit for heavier sets so that im not so straight up and down..
As far as Dbells i think i put the bench on second or third notch and at times i use that little short bench..i think its made just for delts since it has the foot pedals in the front to get a push off..

I always put it one spot back from the 90 incline when doing db shoulder press.
straight up and down aggrivates my lower back once I start to go heavier

I agree...how can you do it any other way.......front presses should be performed this way.......unless you would like to do behind the neck presses...and put the bench at @90degree angle ...your rotators will not like it
