squats and leg presses??

duey

awesome!!
do they primary hit the quads. or quads and hams. i always thought they mainly hit the quads. but im getting more into legs and they feel pretty equally hit. just wondering.

Depending on your form, squats will hit both quads and hamstrings, if you lift like a powerlifter than you will use more hamstring on your squats, if you hold your feet up very high on the sled during leg press, you will hit more hamstrings as well. But really just go by feel, front squats will work the quads much more than regular squats, zercher squats hit the quads nicely as well.

squats are considered a compound movement , they hit more than i muscle/bodypart at a time. that being said your technique will affect how much of each bodypart is effected.

It really depends on what stance you use. If you use a sumo stance for your squats you will be hitting your hamstrings more. If you use a standard or more narrow stance you should be feeling a lot more pull in your quads.

Dissecting the squat is very complicated. With the stance the OP described what he is probably feeling is alot of pain from the adductor group (magnus and longus).

People squat differently.

Some swing when they are rising up. Full squats have worked on my hips, quads, hams, but have roughed up the patela on my knees... So they are different for each person

The feet are a problem, I only squat with flat shoes, Adiddas shoes for olympic weightlifting are the best, and even Converse shoes, because they are flat at the bottom, giving you a better stance. I got so used at using the flat shoes, that when I forget them, I drive back home to get them.

this is a pic of the shoes
