Syringe filters are sterile. If I'm not mistaken, a filter can be sterilized using isopropil alcohol.
About filter size, I read from many websites that the .22 filter is used to filter out small bacterias.
The .45 filter might be too big, and some bacterias can go through it.
I don't have much of experience about filtration systems.
If you want to know where to buy filters at the best prices, hopefully some other members can show you.
Either a .45 or a .22 will work just fine. They are both used everyday without any issues. Buy sterile whatman filters and be done with any worrying or what if's..
