Trained too early?

hey all,

just a quick question.

I have just started bodybuilding again after taking a year and a half out. I ripped my pectorial minor and after getting it sorted out, I never got round to training. I am a ectomorph. Basically, I started training last wednesday (i.e. 2nd March). Obviously, the next day my body was aching and throughout the week too. I thought I was ready for my next session at the gym today (7th March), even though my body was still aching a little bit, during my session today (7th March) I got a bit annoyed because I think I should've have rested a bit longer until my muscles totally stopped aching.

Will this damage my muscles in anyway or stunt the growth/recovery period?

I feel really crap cos I know I should've totally waited until my muscles stopped aching! I have been following a perfect/clean diet.

Was it a bad idea going to the gym today? Will it have any reprecussions?

Sorry for the long story. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I was always under the impression that your muscles haven't fully recovered until they stop aching. I read an article ages ago stating this fact and therefore I thought it was best to only start your next training session once your muscles are not aching. Maybe i was wrong?

I didn't lift much on my first workout because I trained at home, I did pressups, wide grip chin ups and situps, just to basically get back into it.

Does it matter if I train whilst my muscles are sore?

you said trained but you didnt mention bodypart or routine . i would stick to working each bodypart just 1 time per week especially for a while . take a look at the stickys at the top of the page pullinbig has posted some excellant advice on routines there . keep it simple with heavy compound movements , ps heavy doesnt mean compromiseing form and risking injury .

Well, no you probably shouldn't have gone to the gym if you were still sore, but there will most likely be no long-term implications to it.....hell, I used to do that all the time before I got myself a little edumacated. Soreness is not an indicator of growth, but it is an indicator of microtears in the muscle tissue (normal training response); therefore it is best to not train, or at least not the same muscle groups, if you're still sore. That being said, you can not be sore and it can still be too early to lift again. You need to learn how long your recovery period is just thru trial and error, IMO.
