Training vids...

Pretty damn good for an old guy. Nice job. For looked good. Cant tell in the video that much but obviously keep knees behind the toes right?

Ya know, I wonder about this some times. I've never actually seen anyone squat and have their knees go beyond toes.....seems really unnatural and hard to keep balance. People really do it like that?

Anyways, RJ why does your gym look like it's in an office building? lol

Have you tried front squatting with your hands like this:

Front Squat (Weightlifting Style)

I switched over pretty recently and it's really helped me a lot. I feel like my balance is better which lets me drive harder with legs and lift more weight. Took a while to get used to though.

yep. see it alot because guys do half squats and shit, and then when you tell them to sit all the way back and down, they pitch forward, causing the knees to lunge forward beyond the knee. Its not pretty. Most guys don't know how to open up there hips or don't have the strength to do it and then close in a fail. Again, pitching forward.

It does huh? Its a nice Golds, but i can only squat from that rack, and its in the very back corner. its nice though cause the only guys that come back there are serious... or the retards who do barbell curls off the rack. Of course i ask (tell) them to leave.

i have. Don't like it. I actually feel better my way. I have big delts so the bar sits nice in there. honestly this was the first time i have had to dump weight in a long time. I've never gone this heavy with fronts and i was truly at failure. Doesn't seem like it cause #4 was pretty sharp, but on the way down, i could feel my body giving up. lol i'm sure i could have muscled it up but i wouldve hurt something.

Ah that makes sense. I workout at a local Gold's too....I'm one of 2 people I've ever seen squatting in there (the other dude is an up and coming bodybuilder. Think he just turned pro....or maybe he's trying? can't remember) so I don't see the poor form often

I don't doubt it. That's some serious weight. You're actually moving almost the same amount of weight as I do - I don't go past 4 plates on front squats. And when you consider the size difference, that's pretty impressive.....especially for such an old man lol

thanks dickhead. :thefinger

honestly, this has been a really eye-opening year for me. I've been able to get my strength levels up to almost damn near what i used to be able to do during cycles. Just tweaking my mechanics and training a bit has made a huge difference.

I am just heading into my third week of this cycle, so it will really be interesting to see what happens. Thats if my knees hold up that is. Sucks getting old.

the only thing i can point out is widen ur stance just a little bit..

i bet u would have got 2 more reps if u did that... (this is from a powerlifting perspective)

i know what you mean man....my wife loves to make fun of me cuz I've started making "oomph" type noises getting INTO bed. Somehow though, she still looks and feels like she's 21.

thanks brother. i'm actually still battling with my stance a little now that i feel my drop into the hole is good, and my back and hip drive is the best its ever been. And of course that damn rack is only so wide. I'll try that next week with back squats as well.

For everyone else, this is why posting vids is a good idea. No one is too old too learn. And don't worry if you only lift a little. No one cares. Every one starts somewhere.

Great video! Keep up the good work! I'll definitely be posting up some videos of my first proper workout, to get pointers on my form (As iv never done any proper compound exercises at all!)
