I was wondering what workouts target the part of the tricep that comes off the elbow? I'm doing skull crushers and cable pull downs for my tricep workout. Is there anymore good workouts?
All three heads of the Triceps attach to the Triceps Brachii Tendon which attaches at the elbow.
Depending on genetics either the Medial Head, or the Lateral Head go lowest down towards the arm. You might be talking about the Lateral Head (outer most). It is a controversial subject whether or not you can actually isolate just one aspect of the Triceps enough to get it to grow more than the other areas. The generally accepted idea is that you just need to increase the overall mass of the entire area with a balanced approach.
But rope push downs, under grip one arm at a time push downs, scull crushers going behind the head a bit (instead of to the forehead) are a few winners to target the area. But then again these are isolation type exercises. To get the entire mass up, stick with the brutal compound stuff. Close grip bench, push ups with the hands together and feet up on a bench, close grip head up weighted bar dips, weighted bench dips. Then after they are almost fried, then add that one last exercise for isolation.
Here is something to try, that you might like. Do your scull crushers on a decline bench and bring the bar down to the top of the head. Use slow comlete range of motion (especially locking out with the arms tilted back a little) After reaching total muscular failure, give yourself about 10 seconds to get down on the floor, and then do hands together push ups until you collapse. Your tris will fly with that one!
