Welcome Wagon
I donate regularly, every two months, to keep my hematocrit under control.
After successful donations for months, I received a letter from the blood bank stating that I tested positive for Hep B
antibodies. It then said there are 2 things that could have happened, either I had had Hep B in the past and I fought it off and have the antibody now or it was a false positive.
I have no factors for getting Hep, but as a precaution I went to the doc a couple days later for a retest to be sure, instead of waiting 8 weeks for the blood bank to retest me lol.
I tested fine on the retest and learned that false positives for hep b happen nearly 10% of the time, so often that they put it right in the letter. The screening process is a fast and
simple one, so they can just call it positive instead of doing more costly and intensive testing.
Just wanted to make others aware of it as many of us testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) guys give blood regularly. I had never thought much about false positives before,
so if you happen to get a result like that just stay calm and get restested and go from there. I know I was very relieved at the latest results.
