TRT, . . . . for mom?

JOWS6

I am banned!
Long story short: My mom has hypothyroidism and still complains of symptoms. With being recently diagnosed with hypogonadism myself I learned about the under-treatment of hypothyroidism and decided to look into managing her symptoms. Everything looks pretty good and it didn't cross my mind to check her free testosterone but on a recent lab report she came in at 11ng/dL (range 10-38).

I have no idea where to go from here as I am ignorant to testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in women. Anyone have some good reading material or advice? Chip? Do you work with women as well?

is she on the bc pill? That can raise shbg...so can hypothyroidism alone which will lower free test.... 1 grain armor a day would be the best thyroid treatment IMO since tons of people complain from just getting one synthetic thyroid hormone.

yep. Women need the same type of balance and t to e ratio as guys do. If their shit is out of whack, and but the sound of it, her free test is creeping down low, they can experience the same types of symptoms that men do. Of course i cant make any assumptions without seeing complete lab work. Thx

it's actually much easier for women to get help for hormone replacement than it is for men. If she has a GP she trusts then I would have her set up an appointment and get blood work done. You could go to the appointment with her if it made you feel better. It would give you a chance to ask the doctor questions and hopefully get some answers. Good luck.

Nope, she's post menopausal!

I jus' really haven't heard much of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for women so I am really ignorant to this and what to look for.

I'll keep you updated Chip but if she is warrants treatment. Is the treatment protocol the same?

What are her tsh levels?? The range is very wide. 50% of thyroid treatment is getting a Dr that will listen to you and not just say well you are in range.

only if you want her to grow a beard. No, women are always handled differently than men.

I got in contact with one of the best thyroid treatment centers in Chicago. However, I think it's all bullshit. They checked for adrenal fatigue and is on this detoxification program to ensure that her digestion is good to go (She has a long history of stomach problems), being that most of the synthesis of T4 to T3 happens in the intestines and liver.

Her TSH value is at 1.8. I'm looking at her values and I am very upset because they did not test for free T3. Having a value for Free T3 is crucial jus' like having a value for Free T is to us!

I didnt relize you were that far in to it. MANY Dr's will not change your meds if you are in range. In my one case at a 4.5-4.7 i feel like shit. .08-2.0 feel good. Under .04 feels like a drank too much coffee all day long.

I can tell you this when they increase my thyroid meds my sex drive goes away. If they take me off thyroid meds my sex drive comes back. Sorry i can be of more help.

Yes they should test for free t-3
