I am a 51 YO male who was on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) approximately 3 years ago. I used Androgel for about 8 months. When I first began using, the results were fantastic....no big size gains at all but increased muscle tone, decreased body fat, cut/defined even though @ only 140 lbs (I am only 5'6"). However, throughout the 8 months of using.....my results began to fade to the point where the Androgel was not doing anything at all, I lost muscle tone, I gained fat (I am now @ 156, probably 17% BF) and I lost my sex drive (no desire or sensitivity). I have not returned to using Androgel since.
Currently my Total testosterone is 680 ng/DL and my free testosterone is 8.8 pg/Ml (natural w/o being on TRT). However, I never regained my muscle tone, I gained back fat and still have no sex drive. My doctors are dismissing my problems because my testosterone is "normal"(actually high for a 51 yo); they are not offering any solutions and frankly seem to have no concern. It is also important to note that I am on medication that increases some symptoms of metabolic syndrome (increased belly fat /cholesterol(my total is 234)) which is very hard to combat.
I am trying to self diagnose to find a solution to the problems I am having; I thought it would be useful to know what my other stats are regarding:
SHBG
Progesterone
DHEA
Estradiol (Sensitive)
Are there any other tests that I should additionally consider?
Anybody else also experience Androgel just quit working like I have?
My free testosterone is barely WNL @ 8.8, could this be the problem?
Any feedback would help greatly. I want the sex life that I lost 3 years ago back and the body I once had ! Really feeling hopeless at this point.
