unfortunately doctors lie to their patients

I wouldn't want to have a TT of 400 personally. You're incorrect in that TT only counts bound-testosterone btw; it's all three forms (bound/free/albumin-bound).

Unless you have an underlying problem (SHBG for example), TT is sufficient for most. If you have a healthy TT, but still suffer from low T symptoms, THEN I'd investigate free test.

Note: I'm not arguing, just presenting information.

:wiggle:

A guy your size wouldn't be able to function at 400...
Your training and general feeling of well being you have come accustomed to would suffer.

Sorry to thread jack. Apollon, have you ever been told you are a hypochondriac
Mmmmhmmmm. :p

That's low too (free test).
The docs here go by the "gold standard" of testing which for them is bio avail T.
Not arguing but when all the specialists and G.P.s tell you we want to know your Bio Avail.T for a better picture....
Not much to argue about.
I hate to break it to you, but the one doctor you've had tell you this was wrong. Canada (or the US for that matter) does not have a standard when it comes to blood testing, so I would have to imagine that they don't have a gold standard either.

In fact bio T is a panel that's not even covered by the NHS. If it were a gold standard, I'd hope that people would be covered when requesting such a "valuable" test.

I think the problem is that you are basing an opinion solely on experiences, which can skew the actual facts. Hell, I'm sure we all do to an extent. The 4-5 docs you've seen (as shitty as they are) do not consist of the entire Canadian medical team, nor are their opinions medical fact.

To that lovely 400ng/dL issue; I've been there when first getting dialed in several years ago. Doc thought it was fine as it was triple my baseline - but I still felt like shit. Free test was actually barely in range, and my estradiol was in the proper ratio. Albumin-bound test doesn't do shit, so we didn't even bother. The problem is that as we're all different, we may require different levels of hormones to function properly.

I bet there are guys out there that are quite happy at 400ng/dL, and they function just fine. I would speculate why, but I like to have facts to back up my statements.

I don't think size has necessarily (excluding muscle mass) much to do with it. Dosing most certainly does involve mass, but even then some folks are just outliers to what we expect. Your dose for instance Apollon, is WAY smaller than I thought it would be, but it gives you great levels. However, we both (I have 50lbs or so on you) feel like crap at 400ng/dL.

You know I mean no disrespect to anyone in this thread, but do enjoy a healthy debate. I do apologize OP for this massive threadjack, but in response to your original post: Doctors are human beings, human beings tend to lie in order to save face or get out of trouble. Therefore, doctors may lie in a situation where they need to save face (appear ignorant on a topic) or don't wish to get involved in a situation where they fear risk of retribution.

Yes, I call them out every time they do and have a not-so-stellar reputation with many docs in my area because I tend to know as much as they do (rarely more) for whatever I'm seeing them for, but need that script to get the drugs to fix it.

Specialist? ??
Good luck with that.
Since that flawed u.s. study with heart attacks was released last fall....
most mainstream docs (specialists too...who were never really convinced of the benefits of TRT because they are obviously not hypogonadal themselves or else they wouldn't bash it) are enjoying the excuse they can now provide to low T guys that the stuff is potentially dangerous and they are actually better off to not treat it.
I for one was told this....

Wow, each time I see my urologist he explains to me (again) how flawed the study is. He also said the fed gov has recently issued a statement saying to ignore the study.

Your Urologist is PRO TRT and a good asset. Don't leave him.
you will hear the "loofers" (MD's) usually be the ones to tell (usually) uneducated patients that they are actually doing them a favour not treating them.
That flawed FDA study fell right into every TRT hating docs lap to spin it anyway they want it.
The whole thing is sickening really and we shouldn't even give the time of day to those dirtbags in white coats.

My father's urologist targets 1150 for an older man. Dr Belman also targets 1150. If y our in California go see Dr Gary Belman an tell him Steroidology sent you.

My regular Doctor handles my TRT no problems. I had to ask him to retest to check levels. The key is to be informed so you are getting weekly injections prescribed and monitor and control estrogen.

anyone located in nor cal? im looking for a doc to help me

For those who asked about the FDA investigation into the study about heart risks and testosterone theapy, I have no idea where he found that info.
