I'm going to do an experiment.

stats:
72" (6 feet)
180#
Bench: 307.5 x1 wrist wrap
Squat: 325 x2 parallel belted
Dead: 315 x5 from floor no chalk/straps double overhand

This is pretty idiotic, but i am going to start wearing a weighted vest while i lift weights. I will see if it makes me stronger.

I'm thinking the leverage or something.

It probably won't work, but who cares.

I wear one, but not for lifting. I can't imagine that it would make you stronger. I can see it helping your core on non supported lifts. It can also put your body out of position and cause some alignment issues. I found this while using it on the stationary bike.

When I wear it while working the heavybag, I run into balance issues. I don't want the weight vest to make me change the way I strike because I get accustomed to a balance issue while wearing the vest, and it is not there when I take it off. I did notice that it made me throw arm punches, so I had to focus on my rotation. Once I took of the vest, my rotation was awesome..more power there.

But power for lifting....only from making your core stronger. That's the only way I can see it helping. I can see it hurting in several respects though.

agreed.

i think it would be benificial to body wt exercies like:
push ups
pull ups
dips
hyper extentions

and for helping build up speed bursts. I.E... sprint time
and over all endurance build up.

But im going to try to squat with it and deadlift with it as well. just for the hell of it.

Why not just squat and deadlift harder and put more weight on the bar to get stronger and save yourself looking silly in the gym + the $350 it would cost to buy one.
I can think of a lot of things to do "just for the hell of it" and buying a $300 weighted vest to strut around with in the gym while lifting isn't one of them. If you're doing calisthenics then go for it, but just to wear around when you're lifting is a waste.

I would rig up some other type of home made vest. Unless you are wealthy, $300 seems to be a lot of money for something like that.

im pretty sure i can find one of those cheaper.

but i am for sure going to use the shit out of it. I do hill work 2-4 times per week. Plus Im big on suspended BW work, and pull ups/dips.

So the use of it during the squat/deadlift is just experamental.
