What the F**K is dextrose???????

"Who is your Daddy and what does he do?"
I went to the bulk barn the other day and asked if they had any dextrose, and the guy said it might be some instant dissolving fruit sugar or something like that. And when i found what he was talking about, right below it there was Corn Sugar and in small letters it said "Dextrose",,,, so what the fuck is dextrose??? I've been trying to understand but i can't figure it out...

please help me understand.






I realize it's a sugar or "gluclose" of some sort (so i think anyway), but if i wanted to go buy it, what would i be getting??
 
Dextrose (also known as glucose) is a monosaccharide or simple sugar. It is also called corn sugar (as you heard at bulk barn), being derived completly from corn, being a naturally occurring form of glucose. This sugar is the chief source of energy in the body. Glucose is chemically considered a simple sugar.
Dextrose has a high glycemic index (digested carbohydrates ability to raise blood glucose levels, also called Gl) ranking at 100.
 
BBstaples, go to Popeyes on Robie St. (I was there a dew days ago). They sell both dextrose and malodextrin in tubs at a VERY cheap price. 2.99 for dextrose and 3.49 for malodextrin.
 
HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS STUFF?????? haha,,,,, i know nothing about dieting at all....

Okay, i should check out popeyes then, i think you were tellin me about it before.... BUT,,, what's this malodextrin stuff???

AND,,, if i wanted to put the dextrose in a shake for after a workout,,, what else should i put in with it and how much of everything should i put in? Like a scoop of protein powder, a cup of water (or milk), and a cup of dextrose or something like that??? I figure you'll know the answer to this one... thanks again for the help jen,,,



Oh yeah, and it IS this saturday night that halifax shopping center is open till midnight with no taxes.

Malodextrin is an easily digestible blend of complex carbohydrates from corn starch. It contains "glucose polymers", linked sugar compounds that are easy for the body to assimilate. It is therefore, by definition a complex carbohydrate, however its more complex nature dose NOT slow digestion, giving it a high glycemic rating. For bodybuilders use it carries the same overall properties as dextrose. Some use straight dextrose and other a 50/50 blend of dextrose/malodextrin.

for your post workout shake it should consist of 0.7-0.8g carbs/kg of bodyweight. this is in the form of simple sugars (dextrose and/or malodextrin). Also 0.4g/kg of protein in the form of easily digested whey protein. Add to this 5g creatine. Also would be optimal to get in 1000mg Vitamin C and 400IU vitamin E and IMO ALA(alpha lipoic acid) is another great addition for its insulin mimicing effects as well as a great antioxidant. other then that NOTHING else.. no milk, no fats, no juice. an hour following get in a whole food meal containing complex carbs and lean protein, no fats here either as they will slow the digestion, taking longer time to get nutrients to you muscle tissues for repair.

Okay.... So lets say i weigh 195 pounds,,, and i just need a very close, but rough estimate of what i should put in my shake,, how much dextrose and/or malodextrin, and creatine, and water (?? that's what i'll use as a liquid?), and protein (which do you recomend for the lowest $$,,, i like Optimum Nutrition, would that be good?), and how can i measuer 1000mg's of vitamin C? and what can i use to get it (pills?),,, and what is 400IU?? and also, what can i use for that (pills?) and as well,, didn't you say they have ALA for sale there too???
 
at 195lbs you'll need roughly 62-71g carbs and 35g protein along with 5g creatine and 2L of water, this amount is crucial for ideal digestion and hydration purposes. you can buy vitamin C caps at any drug store, they come in both 500mg and 1000mg caps. Vitamin E comes in 400IU caps, so take 1 of those. And yes Popeyes has the ALA as well.
and Personally I prefer Sportlabs whey protein but to each his own. Optimum Nutrition will do for sure.
 
is there any certain brand of vitamin a and e pills i should get? (i'm thinkin shoppers drug mart or something like that would be alright? yet again i'm lookin for low price if i can get it.
 
thats vitamins C and E.. hehe (you put a ) yes shoppers carries a wide carity of brands of both these vitamins. a store-brand name is just as good.

See it's hopeless,,, i'm gonna get in there and not have a clue what i'm looking for haha,, no i've already written this stuff down so when i go to pop eyes and shoppers (or where ever else i shop around for vitamins) i won't seem like such an idiot..... and,, what's a carity? hahaha just kiddin, see we all make mistakes :D
 
LOl well if you get to the drug store just ask for vitamin C and E.. thats 2 letters. haha and tell the person there you dont want to spend a lot. lol

I meant Variety. .. Ive been studying too long my brains dont work right, they need christmas vacation.
 
hahaha, well i already wrote it down,,, now the trouble will be learning to read before i get to the store :p

and haha i know what you meant... and when are your exams? starting around the 9th?
