i dont have anything concrete planned but i do want to compete sometime next year, or late this year if something comes around.
1. what should i have for equipment?
2. do i train like normal up to the meet?
3. what are the must haves/do's ?

basically anything you guys cn tell me to prepare i appreciate. assume i have a while to prepare.
Im 190 lbs. my raw gym lifts are:
Bench: ~350 touch and go
Squat: ~375
Dead:~ 400 with straps and belt.

you live in the states? if so we'll do a phone call. pm me your phone number and a good time to call. too much to type for the questions you asked.

im guessing you live in vegas. if so the apf seiors are there next summer.

first numbers arent important in the 1st contest just get in there and do it . unless you lift in a raw meet you might as well try to be as well equiped as you can reasonablly afford , titan has good lifting gear at a reasonable price .
training is different before a contest because you are useing your suits and shirt and slowly lowering the reps prepareing for a heavy maxx single at the contest ,also dont try training the week of the contest and then try to maxx out that saturday .
a must have list can include most if not all the following .
belt , squat suit , deadlift suit , different shoes that you prefer for each event , baby powder , they usually have chalk available but some of your own just in case is handy , ammonia/nose tork , wrist wraps , knee wraps [ several pair ] , towel , etc.
im sure i forgot something but these guys will add to the list .

I live in Rhode Island. Im in the process of moving into a new house so i wont have a phone for a few days.

know what fed you are lifting in and then youll be able to gauge what equipment you should be buying right now so that you can practice in and learn it..

i found the groove of my bench shirt rather quick but it took a very log time to learn to touch in it..now i can pretty much manipulate things..just need more practice with the heavier weights..

im just getting ready for my first meet too.more importantly is to jsut get strong and then go and have a good time..treat it just like a workout but your gonna be going for max attempts

once you get the phone working pm me. i dont speak yankee very well but maybe you can understand my redneck ass.

btw you cant use straps in a meet. so quit using them in the gym.

the most important thing is to have fun. take a sense of humour with you and meet some good peoples.
I did my first meet recently and had a ball. Looking forward to number 2

i might just be turning into a redneck soon. the new place is in the middle of 41 wooded acres. we're on a private dead end dirt road. in back of the house i can hear turkeys and coyotes yipping. hopefully the well water doesnt rot my teeth out like my neighbor six-tooth.
