Almonds are about 60% oleic acid which is an omega-9 monounsaturated essential fatty acid, and 24% linoleic acid which is omega 6 polyunsat. They also have fairly high amounts of argenine, amino acid that increases nitric oxide production and helps circulation. the ratio of unsat/sat fatty acids in almond oil is 9.7.

peanuts have a ratio of 4 unsat/sat and are 48% oleic acid and 32% linoleic acid. So a big difference is peanuts are higher than almonds in saturated fats.

ha ha, good one, now how about the nutrients side.

oh. see you didn't specify. :D

nuts are a good source of calorie dense fats. Either one is fine. I imagine its more for taste than anything. Almonds may have better EFAs or some dumb shit that doesn't matter anyway.

I read Almonds are the single best food you could eat. That's about all I read, dunno why. Lots of good shit in there for u. I personally think almonds are bland. But do I love almond butter on whole wheat toast. shit's good.

Almonds are higher in zinc and are actually a nut; peanuts, which the name is a huge misnomer, is actually a legume.

great post!!!

i would like to add that peanuts carry phytotoxins in them... now there is research that further states that these phytotoxins are nothing that would be a big concern to human.. but almonds will always trumph over peanuts

trumph?:laugh4:

I just read a study I think from the harvard medical journal that said walnuts/peanuts/pistachios are number 1 healthiest nuts w/almonds a close second. Cashews a close 3rd and macadamia nuts the least healthy.

Too bad, chocolate covered macadamia nuts with toffee are the shit.

Do you have a reference for that? I would like to take a look and see what parameters they were looking at.

The information I am familiar with indicates walnuts, almonds and pecans have the most favorable effect on lipid profiles including the HDL/LDL ratio which significantly impacts cardiovascular morbidity.

Almonds are about 60% oleic acid which is an omega-9 monounsaturated essential fatty acid while peanuts have a ratio of 4 unsat/sat and are 48% oleic acid and 32% linoleic acid. This is the main difference.
