Which Cardio is better for maintaining muscle......and I am thinking in particular while dieting down for a competition.....

Steady State or Interval?

In your opinion/experience which one burns fat better with the least loss of muscle?

what BF are you now?
How long before the show?

Don't know the bf. Nine weeks out. Weigh 120 pounds.....started at 136. BF in the beginning was at about 25% I think.

SS to preserve muscle mass.

Done correctly, you wont lose any. Many eltie level lfiters to lots of GPP or general physical prepareness which is intense cardio (dragging sled, tire flips etc) to boost their work capacity.

Now if youre an out of shape fuck and try doing a ton of of hardcore cardio, yeah your gains will be hindered and you might lose some muscle mass too

In my own experience i run blecahes and drag the sled.i have experienced no strength or msucle loss. if anything, over time i got more muscle because my work capcity went up and i was able to do more.. thats just my experience with hi impact cardio

in my experiance.

when i got down to 4% body fat (4.3% to be exact) I was doing some SS and some HIT training. My cardio sessions lasted 30 min. or less except for 1 day per week. On that day I did SS for about an hour, sometimes 1.5 hours.

When I want to lean down, and cut my BF % I stick with HIT, but once my BF is down low, I don't have the energy to do HIT every time, so thats when I switch to SS.

If your gonna use SS you better make sure its non-oxidative (i.e. HR <120 bpm or so).

HIIT or tabata training is the way to go IMO and IME, although is obviously far more demanding on the CNS. Thats more of a consideration for athletes with performance goals, as opposed to asthetic, though.
