Why do fast food chains hire top scientist?

For all you fast food eaters, Why do fast food chains hire top scientist? Top scientist are hired to work in fast food chain laboratories and get paid top dollar. A burger is just a burger as well as a fish fillet sandwich. Whats the deal?

Public relations & business

Fast food places get alot of bad press about poor nutrition, junk food etc.
Its good press if they hire top scientists because it shows they care about developing a healthy menu - we all know this is bullshit of course.

The other reason is business related - scientists can help them develop different food sources that provide similar tastes but for a cheaper acquisition cost - this applies to things like burgers, sauces, etc. They're also useful when it comes to developing new meals to add to the menus.

I actually read or saw somewhere that they are needed to turn things we would not eat into edible things like fast food burger meat which is actually cow manure turned into beef patties.
