Why is cardio needed for fat loss?

This is a question I have had for a while and have not been able to find the answer.

Couldnt you replace any and all cardio with eating less calories?

For example lets say your maintenance is 2000 calories, you eat 1800 calories per day and do enough cardio to burn 300 calories per day. Couldnt you just do no cardio and only eat 1500 calories per day and get the same results?

From what I have heard everyone is saying eating 1800 calories and burning 300 calories with cardio is better but no one ever explains why its better.

Cardio is great for fat loss, combined with a healthy diet, and you got your self an awesome combo right there. Not to mention cardio is healthy for the body and your cardiovascular system.

Cardio is not needed for fat burning imo. I have a buddy that is a top level pro in the all natural bodybuilding and he does not believe in cardio. He drops about 25lbs to his contest weight at about 4% bf with no cardio at all. Just diet and workouts.

It can be done but the slack has to be picked up elsewhere.
