working out fasted in the morning

Does anyone do this? I've read a few webpages and some say it's a good thing and others say you will not get a good work out cause you have no fuel to run on. I'm thinking about doing this but wondering if anyone seen and benefits from it?

For people trying to get skinny .. Sure it may help. But for guys trying to have muscle mass and look good,, bad idea. You'll have a catabolic work out if training fasted. We want to be anabolic not catabolic , That requires food.

What are you trying to achieve by doing this? And by working out i assume you mean weights, not cardio correct?

I've seen conflicting articles on this and I'm glad I asked the question before I started. I don't want to lose any muscle mass.

Well, seeing as thought one has been sleeping during the night and therefor fasted and in a catabolic state you would be doing more harm than good. Your muscles are breaking down due to being fasted and if you go and workout you are doing further damage. Your body is a machine and needs some sort or fuel in order to perform optimally, in this case build muscle, or at least maintain it.

Im always sceptical of articles as a lot of the time we have no idea what is based on, who the theories were tested on and who it was written by. And after all my time at this, even if the article is credible everyone is going to react to something different. But at the end of the day weight training while fasted=not productive.

Here's my dilemma. Working on the rig, I get off at 12, the galley closes at 1, until 430. So if I workout right after work, not only am I spent (some days) but I won't have access to whole foods for a post workout meal. I've traditionally worked out in the mornings on the rig, and about an hour after breakfast at home. Would I see more size gains from swapping my workout to after work, even though I may not be able to get in a good, whole foods post meal? Not to mention, by the time I get off work, I will not have eaten a whole meal for at least 5 hours. I sometimes can squeeze in a shake and/or nuts or peanut butter between 5-6 when I eat and getting g off time.

is there any way you can go to galley after shift and get some food and then pop it into container until after workout? how long is your work shift? if u havent eaten in 5 or 6 hrs before you finish work then you are prob already running on empty so heavy training then is probably just going to be catabolic and not be of any benefit to you. you might be better off getting something to eat after you finish your shift, take a short nap to recharge, then get to the gym and at least when you finish you might be close or past the 4.30 mark and be able to get some solid food in again for post workout meal.

what is your daily routine like for your early morning workout?
