Working out in fasted state?

Hi all.

What are your opinions about lifting weights in the morning, in a fasted state?
Lets say, lifting on only 50-100mg caffeine and some BCAA for extra fat loss?

I know moderate cardio fasted is a great fatburner, but due to my job
i also have to do my weight training in the morning.

Anyone have experience with doing that in a fasted state?

This is a great idea for Catabolism ! but not for growth . if your only goal is to lose weight (both fat and muscle mass), then go for it. But if you want to build muscle, then stay far far far away from this type of training.

Food is the most Anabolic thing we can consume , its our number one 'tool' in building muscle.

Studies have shown morning workouts are not as effective (non fasted) as afternoon workouts . But, if you have to work out in the morning, then at least get in 30-40 gr of protein and some carbs 30 mins before hand.

note: also, BCAA do not aide in fat loss. even if you were on a calorie deficit for a cut and working out fasted, bcaa would be a hindrance as the body treats these as 'calories' and will convert them to glucose for energy and will also stimulate an insulin response (as well as a fat storage response) … so taking BCAA for fat loss in counterintuitive

I pretty much agree with Roush, and want to add that weight loss is still a matter of calories in vs calories out. It really doesn't matter if it's done via fasted training or not. Just stay away from high intensity cardio, and let the new muscle mass do the work by increasing your metabolism. :)

It would help you if you could just make a quick shake and drink before your workout. Some protein in juice to get the simple carbs and the protein. you don't have to full yourself but to have something to fuel the muscles.
just IMOP

I agree with what the above posts have stated. And yes, at the end of the day its calories in vs calories out and nothing else. If you are eating more calories then you are burning then you wont burn fat. If you add cardio into the mix but still have consumed more calories than youve burned and not managed to burn enough off to put you into a caloric defecit you still wont lose fat.

My opinion on working out in a fasted state though? Absolutely NOT beneficial for anything. In fact, it will be detrimental above anything else if you want to build, or even just maintain muscle.

Allright, I will stick to my caffeine, oats, whey and pineapple an hour before morning training then :)

Thank you all for your advice.
It's greatly appreciated :)
