2 types of pecs.

Are there two different types of pecs? I think there is........

Me and my best friend started training together when we were like 13 years old. We always did the same exercises, but my chest got wider, and his got thicker, and we were always the same strength. Even today, my chest is alot wider and flatter, but his is half the width of mine, but sticks out more.

This is what I mean. The top picture is how my chest is, and the bottom picture is how my friend is.

I guess its just how we are born to grow.

Flat and wide.

one would think you can make your chest develope either way by working the different parts of the chest i guess...the top looks like alot of upper chest work, where the bottom looks like lower chest work..imo...

but if you guys do the same exercises, then i am baffled and must be the way we grow...

I would think that a lot of your muscle development has to do with genetics. Try doing some inclines and incline flys if you want some thickness.

there is definitely different chest structures. just like different bicep structures. some people have those peeking biceps and some dont. YOU CANT CHANGE THE SHAPE OF YOUR MUSCLE, YOU CAN ONLY MAKE IT BIGGER.

I have one of the chests that grow outward, as opposed to those guys who have those long tile looking chests.

It's all genetics. I have a friend that can rep 405 10x and is an NPC bodybuilder yet his chest isn't all that big. However his delts are enormous and he never works them.

I think this mostly has to do with fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers. People are born with more of one than the other. So yes it is genetics. Ian King's the book of muscle xplains this in detail. Hope this helps.

I have a buddy I've known for about 4 years and he never touched a weight in his life. Ever since the 9th grade year of high school he just naturally had a chest that looks thick and defined, as well as his abs and biceps. Used to piss me off, kid never touched a weight his brother was the same way...defined and thick but never seen a weight room......so who knows?

Genetics is all it is. Very little to do with the type of muscle fiber. That will have more of an effect on strength and endurance. NoT Shape.

fast twitch vs slow twitch would not have anything to do with what direction a chest grows in (wide vs out).
indirectly it does. a person with a majority of fasttwitch fibers would have a larger chest since they have a greater perpensity to hypertrophy.

I am not saying larger chest. If it was large chest vs small chest I would agree with you. It is about having a thick large chest vs a wide large chest, fast twitchvs slow twitch does not explain that, only genetics in general does.

stretching and range of motion emphasis can influence development, but bone structure, muscle fascia, joint angles, etc.. will have an overwhelming impact.
