308Power is Back from the Dead

Gone from squatting 405 for 8 to 500 for 8, dont know exactly how long that took. I think 5 weeks though. Dont want to post video for obvious reasons.

Christ you're a fucking beast. Crepitus kicking in at all? That shit is the biggest mind-fuck for me; which keeps me from going heavy at all. :( Of course mine comes with pain, but the sound messes with me more than anything. :spin:

Wait, don't all heterosexual card-carrying members have an ass tattoo? :worried:

I dont know. I crank my headphones loud enough on heavy sets that I cant hear shit.

Been doing a ton of single leg step ups trying to just balance eveything out. I feel like it is all really coming together. If you dont feel pain with that kind of weight on your back something is wrong with you dude haha.

Yes the qualifiers are important.

I already squat 3x/wk and deadlift 2x one wk and once the next. I might be switching to rack pulls and partial deads in the near future but for now I can recover from full deads ok. I also need more hip drive in my squat, coming out the whole is where I get stuck obviously so maybe some box squats or paused squats? Pulls I find that my power cleans help deads, just working on the explosion since if I can break the ground with it in any amount I can always lock it out

Edit* thank you...exactly what I wanted to hear :D

I recommend pause squats for the raw lifter. It's been my opinion that box squats are better suited for the equipped lifters. If using for a box squat for glute and ham development I think good mornings/glute-ham raises are better personally. What's your take on that .308?

As for speed off of the ground with pulls, I agree deficit pulls/cleans. I also like front squats but I do that for multiple reasons not just for initial pull work.
Also agree that partial and rack pulls are not going to benefit anything but post knee lifting.

But hey I'm still a student ... And always will be.

.308, I admire your grind! Your dedication and commitment to your sport is truly inspirational to any. So many would have quit, complained, or even just been satisfied with what they had at one time. Good luck

Let's move some heavy ass weight!

Thanks for the encouragement. It really depends on the client. How advanced they are, where there weak points are, where things fall apart, if the lose balance... why cant you box squat and also do some glute hams?

For example, if someone is just starting out, I put them with a box at parallel. This makes them sit back, open up the knee's and teaches them right where their depth needs to be, while also increasing hip flexibility. I'm not going to tell someone to pause in the bottom if they have mad butt tuck and their left leg caves in in the hole, you know?

Ok that makes sense, never took into consideration how it might help mobility. Personally what helped me with depth was hundreds of reps to depth... Squat everyday! Now it feels wrong to do anything else haha.
What's your opinion on squatting to failure.. Heard bad things such as your muscles can respond negatively by completely shutting down with a resistance close to or above maximal.

That's exactly my thought... I've been seeing guys purposely training like this though.
I mean I guess for hypertrophy it could be beneficial; oh well I suppose.

Btw with a 815 squat... Think .338power is a better suited name haha

308 is my weight class brother. Not trying to play off of the gun.

Training for strength and training for hypertrophy are two completely different animals. Different secrets for each one. I'm after explosiveness, efficiency, and speed strength. Doing a high rep set where why bar speed or form suffers is counter intuitive for me.

In reference to the AV, have some random issues, nothing training specific though. Thanks for asking

You can be a monster at 198 as well man. My best friend is 20 and is going to hit a 950 squat and 700+ bench at the York Pa meet next month

Jesus that's one strong "little" dude! I can't imagine benching 700lbs; anything past 500 just seems earth-shatteringly heavy. Especially when it's above your neck. ;)

308, I saw where you said you use the Westside-Barbell Conjugate Method. For the last 5 weeks I've been incorporating a watered down version in my training and it's been kicking my ass (I can't imagine what the real thing must be like), but I found out I've added 20 lbs to my deadlifts tonight! I feel like I'm leaving the ground faster and I'm much tighter. WBC Method is effective and really fun. Thanks for pointing it out!

Woah who you callin little!! Haha

Wellllllllll, I do outweigh someone weighing 180 by a good 160lbs... So yeah... :p

NO disrespect intended. It's a fact that the smaller guys are stronger than us bigger guys pound for pound. Especially when they're able to bench more than me haha. :spin:
