Am I suffereing from low testosterone?

So I am a 27 year old male. I went to the doctor because I was experiencing bouts of ED, I have been experiencing it my whole life, typically not when watching porn though, although it has happened. I asked to get my test checked and it came back "normal". 366 Total Test 53.4 free test. Everywhere I read online, this is really low for my age.

I also suffer from fatigue, social anxiety and minor depression. After seeing a psych for awhile I was diagnosed with ADHD and given meds to treat social anxiety.

My gut tells me that if my testosterone were higher, I wouldn't need all of this other stuff. I haven't really even contemplated going on TRT.... because I don't think that would be a good idea. I just want to know if there is a better option for me.

Not sure I can help you, But I was tested at less than 200 total when I was 27 2 years ago so you are not the only one, I thought I was too young to be low, Doc ran several tests, MRI etc. and basically said testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) was the only option If I wanted to feel better. And I have been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for maybe a year now and I feel great. You would notice a difference on your first shot. testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is for life though.... Its a big decision, and I dont know if 366 is low enough for you to start. But one thing I had to think about was getting a shot every week... For me, the Pro's out weighted the Con's so I did it. One more thing to think about, If you want to have kids you will have to quit taking the test for a while, right after I started the testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) my wifes fertility doc said I had to quit taking it, so I did, I kinda crashed for a bit, she got prego so I started back again and all is well.

Just some thoughts...

You gotta look at this a couple ways. First off, do not let the "normal" range fool you, in reality, you have the testosterone level of a 90 year old man (not joking either), which is NOT normal, despite that "normal" range saying it is. So, first off, do not be fooled by the "normal range" which seems to have brainwashed many people, doctors included.

Second, you obviously are experiencing the symptoms of low testosterone, and so I say, so what if you're 27? 2 questions, if you had diabetes at 27 do you think the same question would be raised, "do you really wanna start treatment at 27, cuz you're gonna be on it your whole life?" and the next being, do you really wanna wait how-many-ever years it's gonna take to fall out of the normal range to finally get treatment, all along the way suffering from the symptoms you have now? Listen to your body my friend, it doesn't lie to you.. you are experiencing these symptoms bc your body is trying to communicate with you that something isn't right, so are you gonna let a doctor that probably knows very little about testosterone replacement tell you that he knows more about what's going on in your body when your body is telling you otherwise?

What frustrates me so much is, yes I understand that testosterone replacement is for life, but why not at least run a short trial period to see if this offers any help, and if you decide it does, you can continue on with treatment, and if not, you can come off. I just hate the argument that you are too young. I'd rather get treated at 27 than wait til 35 when my levels finally drop out of range, and have to suffer all those years.

I agree with you Nate, a "trial run" may be a good idea... I just wanted to post that I am about the same age as you and my T was even lower. Find yourself a good doc and give it a try if there are no other issues (that can be fixes) causing the low T.

Do you guys think I should try something like androgel? Would it be hard for me to get a prescription?

I'm not clear on this, hopefully IMT will chime in and correct me, but to my understanding this sounds like you might have a medical condition, since you've suffered from this all your life, most doctors will tell u that your test levels are within normal range, (when this is not true) If I were you, I'd contact IMT, they can guide u in the right direction & set up a peresonalized protocol that will get your levels up & will make u feel much better.

Dont just think of the testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) either. Low testosterone will also create other issues for you in later life - diabetes, depression, oesteoperosis, overall brain function. Thats just to name a few.
Im 25 and on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) - its not the end of the world mate there are a lot of other things id rather have than injecting myself 2x a week.

Make sure you are checking your lifestyle. Things like poor diet, overweight, sleeping habits, exercise, tobbacco use & drug use. If you start taking T and have poor habits in these areas taking T will only do little. Also when was your blood taken for Testosterone, because it does flucuate and if you did it in the afternoon your numbers could be 50 maybe even 100 lower, also did you drink the night before and sleep right, if not you may want to go back and re-check it. Also get some other things checked like thyroid, ferritin, prolactin, LSH and FH, estrogen, lipids, psa. This will help determine if its anything else or help you know what you need to do with a testosterone regmine.

Funny thing about testosterone is a lot of its symptons are closely alligned with fatigue symptoms which can be attributed to anything.

Dont be afraid to take T if you need it you need it and if you are not comfortable with injections, androgel if it works for you is very easy to use. But I would also be sure you have everything checked out first and dont rush into everything. Be advised taking T does have some side effects such as acne, bloating, ball shrinkage, and you may be on a physical and emotional roller coaster until your protocol is figured out. Also you may or may not have to take T for life some people can come off and restart your normal system, which chances are you only be right back where you were though. Also taking T can kill your sperm count it did mine, but there is another medication called HCG which can help that but its not guarenteed. So keep in mind taking this stuff can kill your ability to have children, not saying it will as many people are still successful in having kids while on this. But some will reccommend sperm banking

Mag,
I'm 35 now and just started (see my newb thread), and when I
Mean just started I mean second shot in. My symptoms similar to what you are experiencing are the same that I experienced around 29 and my test at that time was around 330's as well. My PCP told me it was "normal" and I just thought I was a lazy ass. So, far in the first couple weeks I've seen a slight improvement and I can only predict it will get a lot better. I'd do a couple things, get with a reputable HRT anti-aging clinic (IMT on here from
What I've read so far they seem very well educated and give you tons of help). I go to a local place but would probably of went w/ IMT if I couldn't find something legit close to my house. Have a full Chem and labs specific to your potential condition and be diagnosed from there. Then post here your experiences for all of us to learn. This place is like a checklist manifesto. I'm curious as to what is causing the increases in low T in younger and younger generations.
Stress? Soy based GMO foods? GMO by itself? Vaccinations? Or
We starting see examples of slow evolution? (sorry creationists). Back
On topic: I wouldn't wait for it to get better, go find a reputable
Doc to diagnose you.

Best,
Trey
