Anavar during recovery after surgery?

I have a friend who is going to have surgery in a couple of weeks to remove a neuroma in her foot (Morton's Neuroma). Right now she is taking ana Anavar (var) @ 10mg ED. She asked me whether there would be any benefit in running the Anavar (var) during the 3-4 week recovery period during which she probably is not going to workout. I assume that the Anavar (var) would make it easier to prevent loss of muscle tissue during periods of inactivity, but I am wondering whether there would be any other benefits? In particular, I wonder whether the ana Anavar (var) would speed up the healing process.

I wondered the same thing. I thought I had a hernia a while back, and figured that if I had to have surgery, I would have gone on a low dose of something anabolic. Its figures that something that helps a muscle grow would help it hear faster

Well I am going to have sinus surgury on Aug 4th, and have comtemplated the same idea. I really think its got some pro's and some con's. Sure taking a low dose ( esp. just taking var) will help the body maintain a non catabolic state, but it could effect recovery. I was on a low dose of test during the last surgury I had, needless to say I blead like a stuck pig. I guess it all comes down to the type of surgury your having. I mean, all anabolics effect the immune system by way of cellular immunity. Thats really not good when you going under the knife. So I guess my advice would be to not be on any kind of AAS. :)

Well, considering that anavar is given to AIDS patients, I don't think that it would compromise the immune system.

I just found this study. It seems that the type of steroid makes all the different WRT immune function.

As an untoward effect of chronic anabolic steroid use, immunologic alterations may be induced. To evaluate this possibility five commercially available steroids with various types of structural differences were studied in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Animals were divided into five groups and treated with testosterone (Group 1), testosterone propionate (Group 2), testolactone (Group 3), oxandrolone (Group 4), and stanozolol (Group 5). Androgenic anabolic steroids were administered daily, subcutaneously dissolved in oil, at a dose of 1.1 mg/kg. Immune alterations were assessed by skin-test responses to phytohemagglutinin. After five days of treatment (1.1 mg/kg/day) a significant immuno-suppression was observed with all groups. However, by day 10, groups 3, 4, and 5 showed an immuno-stimulation. Using oxandrolone as the model stimulant, serum testosterone levels were significantly suppressed, while castration abolished the stimulatory effect. These observations indicate that immune alterations do occur with anabolic steroids which are immuno-suppressive when the steroid nucleus is intact and immuno-stimulatory with nuclear alterations. It appears that these changes are associated with altered gonadal testosterone release.

Well I have read the study, but you must keep in mind that they are only going by a simple skin test. They are not testing for effects on T cells and B cells or more specificly TNF and other factors that going into cellular immunity. You see there are two parts of the immune system, one is the humoral (sp?) the second is the cellular. Most anabolics seem to bost the humoral and lower the cellular. Now I have not seen any studies on Anavar (var) specificly, although I doubt it effects cellular immunty very much anyway, there are two steroids that have been shown in low doses to not effect it. Those are Winstrol (winny), and deca. AS to steroids be administered to aids patients, I believe this is only when 'waisting' becomes a danger to the patients life. At that point something must be done to stop it or the patient could die from it.

Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying that Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) are going to fuck up your immune system, but it will effect it. This is usually not a problem untill the user is ready to come off. Remember that the immune system is part of the 'loop'. The corticosteroids manufactured in the addrenal glands are regulated by the hypothamas. Bottom line is I really dont think your female friend will be doing any harm by being on a low dose of Anavar (var) . But you get my point.
