Any thoughts on crossfit?

I know a bunch of guys that do it. It defineintly gives you a very unique look. You get gains but not like you do from standard gym workouts. Its slow gains cause its over the entire body, so the gains arent seen as easily. But it will put you in great shape!! All comments are from personal ex, and word of mouth, just my 2 cents.

I have mixed feelings about crossfit.

I like some of the workouts and when done properly with good form it can be a good program but there is also a tendency to sacrifice form for reps. I have no idea where they got the idea to incorporate deadlifts for time in a workout. Just seems like a one way ticket to snap city. So it really depends on the trainer/gym. In the right hands it's a sweet program but a lot of noobs give crossfit a bad name because they just throw random exercises together and do them as fast as possible.

Also, just speaking from personal experience but there also tends to be an aura of douchyness surrounding some crossfitters. It's like they stumbled upon the holy grail of fitness and if you do any other program you're just a retarded meathead. Had a couple friends with me who would give me constant shit about not doing crossfit and how I wasn't "functional". Was very irritating.

I have always viewed crossfit as a way to develop functional strength and cardiovascular training using one methodology. I don't think you can ever get as strong as a powerlifter or as developed as a bodybuilder. I tried it for a few months and lost a great deal of absolute strength, but gained endurance strength...think NFL combine benching. It was too intense for me because it required a massive amount of effort and at the end of the day, I lost 30lbs on bench...50lbs on DL and Squat. It was disheartening to say the least considering the effort I put in.

This was my experience only.

I'm an mma fighter and I incorporate crossfit ito my workouts at least 3 times a week. It gets me ready for fights and helps form my whole body. I don't think it's for the guys who have been in the gym for a month and think they're Billy Badass, but for someone who knows what they're doing its a great cardio and full body workout.

Canadian military just went to a Caveman style of functional and muscular strength/endurance training, ( this is what I've taught for years since leaving the military and recommend it over crossfit, no one finishes a workout without a massive shit eating grin ). Take a look at Caveman if you ever get the chance, Form is definitely number one on the list, not speed.
