Auto Clave once over.

Find myself in a first time position where I feel unease with a cycle. Would someone with a educated. Or quasi-educated;). Perspective give me a quick once over on the reasons, function, consequences, and process for auto claving. Does it compromise the esters. Is it a complex process. if it matters , it would hypothetically be for a 300 ml vial. (dont know if auto claving amps is possible). Does the process compromise the rubber compounds with low melting thresholds. i am a old head, never had concern , or need for concern. and only recently find myself in a spot with something I don't feel iron clad about. So, if I could pick your brains for a 101. I am admittedly in the dark about this. Or, failing Auto claving, any other sterilizing options for rubber stopped vials. Best choices? I would appreciate it. If more comfortable feel free to PM me. I realize its a in depth request. Your help will be remembered, and appreciated. Stay strong all.

If I remember back to my microbio course correctly, the autoclave works on high pressure steam, at temperatures in the ~120*C range. As for whether or not that will melt rubber, you would have to know EXACTLY what kind of rubber stopper you have there. My guess is, it will melt. We had a few specialized flask rubber stoppers that we could autoclave, but our "normal" one would melt if we ever tried it. You would have to find the type of rubber on that vial then search around for its melting point. Not sure how the autoclave would affect the oil. Hope this helps, its the best I got lol.
