Bench or DB?

I myself usually do both I may go from bench press, to cable crossovers for my chest then hit dumbell bench and a dumbell incline it just adds a little bit more because i want to get a good pump and build more defintion in my chest.

See i think the flat bench helps develop the back, shoulders, arms as well.
You probably look great man but I feel that I get the symmetry I'm looking for from the flat bench and then I isolate with DBs, flyes, etc. Just my opinion.
Oh and nice avatar. Long time Pats fan here. Back to 1976 with John Hannah and Steve Grogan.

Pats are gonna be back in the hunt this year!!!

But i do workout from time to time with Dennis Cieri who is a USAPL champion and bench america champion many times over. He is a lifetime drug free bencher who does abut 500 raw at 198. Evertime i see him bench he does raw paused sets with 405 and goes to flat dumbells directly after and hits the 175's for reps. It works for him, so doing them both is feasable.
It works for pullinbig as well, apparently, according to his training log. Very similar to what you just described.

Yup. Agree on the Pats.

Saw Big Papi at the world baseball classic yesterday in Orlando. He hit two bombs.

bands are great w\dumbells

How exactly would one rig this up? I'm assuming this would help keep one in their 'groove' better the same way it does on bb.

I have pretty much sworn off bb bench for the time being. I have been through physio twice, and every time i get under a bar the pain starts up again. I'll probably do BB work like once a month, max.

jcp2,
Can you post what you think should be a non-powerlifter intermediate chest workout? Very enlightening to see you wouldn't do flats if you didn't have too. I am tall and long also but have bought into the "basics" before and didn't see much results from flat barbell presses. Have been doing more incline work lately and seeing more improvements in chest size and fullness.

DB with bands....

I wouldnt think it would decrease your strength unless us simply puss out on the workout with the DB. If youve been doing flat bench for 3 years i think it would be a good change to try something different. If i do both BB and DB press during the same workout I will do one incline and the other flat...then change it around the next few times I hit the chest. Thats just me tho.
