Ok,,, so I know I am tired, and prolly just overlooking the obvious,,, but looking at the bench like an animal pt5 artical on animalpak.com I am completely lost as to WTf a "Bench shirt" is,,, someone wanna' drop the resident troll a help line?

:help:

thx

its a shirt usually made of poly , denim , or canvas that is tight enough and strong enough to help you bench more weight . its so tight and strong that it actually holds the weight back at the chest/bottom making it hard to get the weight to your chest and helps you start the weight up but once the weight is up so far the rest is up to you and your triceps . this a simplistic explanation but it should give you a clue what bench shirts do

They are worth having if you compete in bench contests--they restrict your movement so a bench shirt would be counterproductive for bodybuilding. You can get them through Inzer for about 50 dollars

Are they expensive? Is it worth using or will I develope a weakness from it?
find a gym where theres a group of powerlifters working out and let them demonsrate benching in a shirt and show how you to use it . you will only develop a weakness from it if you use the shirt all the time . if you can afford a shirt and want one to use occasionally to motivate yourself by benching extra heavy or just to have some fun at the gym [ 99% of us do this as a hobby and not to make a living , hobbies should be fun :) ] go for it also you may just find that powerlifting is for you .

* You'll need friends to help put them on
* It will take practice to bench well with a bench shirt
* You look like a jackoff walking around the gym :laugh4:

the new open back shirts are much easier to get on and a lot more comfortable
it does take practice to bench in a shirt but poly shirts are pretty easy to get used to
i may look like a jackoff in my shirt but everyones smart enough not to say it to my face ;) , actually my gym has a little nook in the back with a bench , deadlift platform and squat rack thats seldom visited by anyone except the more hardcore crowd .

My new gym has one of those squatter racks where you dont have to step backwards. Apparently the strongman of the gym is squatting 8s and pulling 7s, and knows Gene Rychlak, the guy thats been busting out the 900 presses. I hear he is going for a grand soon.

He is using an open back, quad denim shirt I think, I forgot about the open backs.

its probably a monolift your talking about . they are big bucks but we have a homemade one , they are ALMOST necessary for safety when some of the guys are squattin a half ton . thats a lot to walk with considering that when 1 leg is moving almost all the weight is on the other one

Yep its one of those huge things, perfect for box squats etc. You stay stationary and the 'rack' part that holds the bar is moved by a spotter(s).
