benching to your chest.

when you do paused bench you take the stretch reflex away.right?so i would think you could just do pauses to eliminate the reflex and do the boards to eliminate it and work that point of the motion as well.

so do board presses only benefit shirted benchers, or would it be judicious for any

lifter to add it to their routine?

THey will benifit any lifter. I started doing them around christmas and went up 25pounds in my bench in a month and a half.

I suppose you could but I can't imagine laying 400+ pounds on my chest and resting it there and then pushing again.

i did paused benches with 455 my last raw session. full range of motion. why is it hard to imagine?

a shirted bencher would most likely concentrate on te higher boards (3 thru 6 brd)

a raw bencher really doesnt need to improve lockout (not always the case) i would think there would be much benefite going over a 2 brd for a raw bencher..
in fact it would be better to incorporate some sort of cambered bar presses to help getting weights off the chest

ok....if you don't go all the way down, you are missing a big part of the exercise. The stretch is crucial for growth. Have some of you not read about the importance stretching correlated with growth? You don't necessarily have to touch your chest, but get that stretch about 1-2 inches from your chest.
Plus, if certain people do bench ONLY for their chest, pick a different movement to do. Bench presses are called a compound movement for a reason. A good part of benching is tri's and front delts. Do you squat only for your legs, or deadlift soley for your back??

Shit I guess my chest would be absolutely enormous if i bring my upper arms way past horizontal and screw up my shoulders.

Your chest really doesn't kick in much that low..

maybe if you learned how to bench properly you wouldnt have shoulder problems better yet maybe do some rotator work..9 out of 10 people i see doing rotator work are doing it horribly wrong and prolyl doing more damage

christ everyone is so touchy about benching..just like all the assclowns at most commerical gyms

I do a little rotator work.

I don't have a big ego so I don't even BB bench. No my chest is not lacking at all.

so a big bench = a big ego??????
thats like saying all bodybuilders are narcisistic?
while im sure some are and im sure there are PL'er with egos for the most part most dont..

i dont consider myself to have a big bench but i bench more than ur avg gym rat and if i thought they were serious i would be willing to help them out and offer advice if asked

Benching big, or desiring ripped 21 inch guns are both types of ego/self satisfaction. For those who go to the gym for casual fitness, they wouldn't even be posting here.

i desire a 15 inch cock too lol

youre absolutely right it is self satisfaction..i just think EGO si the wrong word unless its justified..I know when i hit a 600 bench i will be satisfied because its a personal goal..does that mean i have a big ego??? If anyone knew me they would say no..lifting its just that a hobby and a sport that i have fun doing and yes i take it seriously but it in no way mean that im any better than Johnny who benches 275

Good point, its not the best word. Comparing experienced lifters, to 'Bicep Billies' and the like who are after summer muscles is also incorrect. Some guy who is in the gym for 6 weeks, and does his bench/bi routine might have ego issues - being very excited to press 20 pounds more than the person to either side of him.

I like big weights, but I'm very friendly and I dont throw it in anyones face in the gym. If its ego related, its ego pleasing to myself. I really dont require, and dont really enjoy (that frequently) anyone else to say 'wow man.'
