Its working, I have never looked better!! I have dropped weight, its coming off fast too. Actually too fast, he raised my carbs 5 grams a day. I have went from 147 to 139 in about alittle over 3 weeks. However I am getting crabby, longing for a whole foods cookie. The problem is not the cookie, yes I can have a cookie once in a blue moon, its that once I start I know I cant stop and it will only be harder for me to get back on the plan so why bother. I just feel bitchy, sensitive and MAD!!!

I am going to get over it, but I just wanted to yell at someone. Boy has my life changed, I went from crazy crack smoking slut, to counting carbs and working out and being a total straight. Both have there good points and bad points I guess I just feel like at times I am missing out on some real fun. No drugs, no booze, no food , I am quitting the cigarettes, whats left for fun in life. Im married for a long time so dont even say the sex word.

I never would have believed from age 25 to age 43 you can change so much. I need to find some fun outlet beside lifting weights and a good whole foods cookie.

LOL, Stevey you have a good sense of humor girl. I think its great how your changing your life for the better. I get in the same mood from carb depleting, but it usually goes away after a few days.

I agree that you should find something else to do aside from lifting. I am obsessive so I love to count what I eat and work out and log everything, whether its healthy to be in that frame of mind is yet to be decided.

What else do you like to do?

COngrats on your progress!!

I wish you lived closer to me!!

You know alot of the things I liked to do, I cant do anymore due to being drug and booze free. I cant stay up that late anymore!!! I used to love going to great concerts the problem is like I said without a substance I cant stay awake even if its heavy metal and since I am usually the only sober person in the joint I find that not so fun anymore. I love libraries, reading, road trips but now that I dont smoke or quitting smoking cigarettes car rides are not as fun!! I guess the damn cookies were my last vice and I really feel like I am missing something. I also read an article that a low carb diet causes seratonin changes in your brain so maybe I just need to adjust. I quit smoking last week and 3 weeks ago quick the cookies so its a definate withdrawl.

I also deep down know that even if I have the cookies the GUILT is not worth it. I want the muscles to show more than the cookie so I just have to grow up! You know what I need is to look at the low carb goodie recipies to make something legal and yummie. With these ratios I am on there is no room for a goodie so I have to make a fake legal one.

I dont know I guess I am just longing for my crazy youth. Even though I feel and to be honest look better now, it was easier to be a loser.

I am venting. Thanks for letting me get it out. I actually had a semi fun day today after I got thru bitching at my husband. He has noticed that I have been pretty crabby lately. We took a great little long ride to Princeton, NJ. Nice area. Went to a pheasant farm and wow got organic chicken!!! Yummy!!! Exciting. My life is pathetic.

the carb depletion will really mess with your moods and your energy levels. you should look into the zone diet. it'll help balance out the hormones and those mood swings will stop, and your energy levels will be much more even throughout the day. the improvement in your workouts will be huge as well. feel free to send me a message with any questions, i'd love to help out if i can.

have a great day

Vent all you want. That is one of the reasons this forum exists! Getting in terrific shape is NOT an easy thing.

You can still have your crazy youth...just do it in moderation.

I love going to concerts and bars more than ever before because I look kick-ass and my confidence is through the roof. I have a good night of partying and drinking and eating. The next day you almost want to get back on diet because of how you feel. It's very rewarding!

thanks for letting me vent, I have now realized after reading this, Im an old lady. Maybe I will go to Jeff Beck and show my husband I am not that old yet. Thanks

BTW, I am right now over the crabby feeling. Im sure it will return, this diet is hard. I thought it would be alot easier, there is no room for fun in it. However I have went from 147 - to 138 as of today.

I also hate the HIIT, I thought moderate cardio was bad, now thats a breeze. This HIIT I AM DOING, I cant believe I am doing it but its working. I dread the days I have to do it. Its murder, I was never a big cardio fan either.

Its amazing what we can do if we put our mind to it.

I just got done doing a carb refeed day, so I am going to be hurting the next few days. I feel your pain girl.

I used to hate doing cardio until I started seriously running about 8 months ago. It completely changed my lower body, it gives me a lot of energy, heightens my mood and tires me out ( which is good since I have sleeping problems). Whenever I am done running I always feel like I accomplished something.

Make sure you have good running shoes. I recommend Asics. They actually improved my running and helped my shin splints.

Congrats again on the weight loss ! We are always here for you to vent to!

you know, there really is little if any benefit to HIIT. there is no reason to do cardio at more than a moderate intensity. the aversiveness of HIIT will more than likely condition you to do hate cardio, which will result in you doing less and less of it until it completely kills your drive.

just do moderate cardio and keep your head up.

I love you!!! Now really why is everyone so gung ho HIIT if there is no benefit? Look I like moderate cardio hr 120-140 that tolerable. I have been doing this HIIT and heart rate is 165-170 and it really sucks. I have no love for it at all. So why are the so called EXPERTS so quick to tell me to do this wonderful form of exercise? Why do they think there are benefits to losing bodyfat? And most important since I do like and respect your opinion reading your posts why do you SAY THERE IS NO BENEFIT?? Thanks Marilyn

I guess the ones recommending it are thinking Im one who has a hard time losing bodyfat?? Because this is not the case on this plan. The weight is flying off. Its actually going too fast, and I would love to drop it.

Haha....I completely disagree there is no benefit to HIIT cardio. I have found I do much less cardio due to HIIT. I find their is numerous scientific articles on both being beneficial so you have to find what works for you. Long steady state cardio takes up to much of my time so I do HIIT. However others prefer the former. We'll just agree to disagree.

Blondie...I'm a runner as well. It's my favorite cardio by far. I get results quicker and my legs come in awesome as well. There are pro bodybuilders that advocate no running due to "muscle" loss. However most do not want legs like pros. Many pro figure and obviously pro fitness girls use running and stair-running for cardio as well. I like saucony shoes but I've been running for years and have tried every single type of running shoe. I need specials ones for pronating and I'm using some from Reebok right now. When running always get good quality shoes. It's worth it!

as far as weight loss and aesthetics all together there is no reason to use HIIT. if she were trying to advance her distance running or improve her cardiovascular health, sure...HIIT is a reasonable technique.

the intense spurts drain glycogen stores making HIIT moderate - highly catabolic while on a cal deficit. while any weight loss effects noticed can be achieved by milder steady state cardio. and like i said, for a rookie like stevie, who is unstable in dieting and cardio, the aversiveness of HIIT out weighs its cardiovascular benefits and inflates the lack of weight loss.

I have achieved astounding weight loss results using moderate cardio...results i would challenge any one using HIIT with.

if you are a runner and simply enjoy the act of running, HIIT is nice. if you are trying to lose weight or are concerned with aesthetics or maintaining muscle mass, HIIT is not a smart choice.

I never disagree with DTone but I have to chime in here. Speaking theoretically without being able to reference specific studies, I'd say the benefits of HIIT can be seen in the physiques of athletes. There's a reason sprinters (track and field and swimming) have more lean muscle mass and lower body fat than distance performers. There's a reason basketball and volleyball players have more muscle mass and lower body fat than soccer players. Quick, explosive, athletics movements vs. steady-state movement.

And instead of put my second point into my own words, here's Alwyn Cosgrove:

Aerobic training encourages the body to adapt by becoming "energy
efficient". This means it will take less fuel to perform the same
amount of work. Although an energy efficient body sounds great, it
isn't — not if you're trying to lose fat. Energy efficiency just makes
the job of losing fat more difficult.

To simplify it as much as possible, fat loss comes down to creating a
caloric deficit. The body burns calories primarily by muscular work.
Steady state low intensity aerobic training does not require much work
from the muscular system and does little or nothing to even maintain
muscle tissue.

So, if muscle is "fat burning machinery," then aerobic training makes
that machinery smaller and more fuel efficient, which is not what I'm
looking for.

So we have an activity that burns calories, but the more you do it,
the fewer calories it burns with each subsequent exposure (so to burn
the same amount of calories you have to go harder or longer), and in
all reality it just doesn't burn that many calories anyway.

Many people do HIIT wrong. Just because a certain heart rate is reccomended does not mean you have to do that. Look at an obese person....it's just not possible for them to get at certain heart rates without hurting themselves.

The basis of HIIT...shorter time for cardio while doing intervals. Get yourself out of breath for a minute or two, recover and do it again. How "hard" you want to do it is up to you really.

It saves me from doing tons of cardio personally. I just don't have the time to do 1.5 to 3 hours of cardio for contests.

both cp and MM have good points here, and i base my opinion upon many dieters and trainers i know, research, and most importantly personal experience. the primary reason i was sharing this my perspective is because stevie was expressing her dislike for HIIT, in which there is no reason she HAS to do HIIT. It is effective, but as is steady state for her goals.

HIIT has its place, certainly, as cp pointed out, for many athletes. but for a person who is very new to fitness and dieting, HIIT is not her only option and she shouldnt feel like she has to or her progress will suffer if she does another form of cardio...because it wont.

I have to agree with Dtone here. HIIT is great in regards to what its for. But for strictly aestheticly driven people, its not needed at all. I think everyone has great points, i guess its all what Steve is shooting for in regards to goals.

As for you Stevie, a couple things i love while dieting (of course I don't do depletions, etc.). But when it gets bad, I suggest Sugar Free Jello. Even a lite dollop of SF Cool Whip is possible every now and again. And believe me, while dieting, that is guilt free way of making that craving go away. Especially if you have exp in drugs and things of that nature, your mind is working against you also even if you sub one craving for another. So just stay strong and stick with it.

One other thing, and not being a pervert... but are you masturbating frequently? You don't have to answer that cuz i'm not THAT guy, but there are proven studies that show self-pleasure can and does release similar amounts of, damn, forget the word... but it can have similar calming effects that can help decrease your desire for certain cravings. And of course its fun. But seriously, just a thought.

Dieting is all about will and desire. Whatever the goals, remember where you were back then and how well you are gonna be when you reach those goals. Also remember how bad things could have been.

Sometimes in life you gotta measure success by how little you lost.

Good luck.

Great point. I think people spend too much time looking for THE PERFECT workout when there's so many things they can do to achieve results.

wow some real good reading here from all. Ok, the key word here is asethetically driven reasons. I could care less about being a runner, getting a great cardio heart rate zone or infact dont ever see a need in my life to use it. I am doing this for nice shaped muscles and a lower bodyfat. Now can one achieve leaness of about lets say something one can LIVE with for the rest of their life at for a women 15-16 percent??? So my goal is to get more muscle to show because I have that and a bit leaner but be so hard and lean, one step at atime.

The improvements I have been making with this diet are amazing. I went to the gym today and people are just coming out of the woodwork and like holy crap, what happened you look really good.

You see I went about this the wrong way. I started super heavy lifting at 142 lbs a years and a half ago with probably a bodyfat of 29 percent. Then after 6 months did the Winstrol (winny) packed on the muscle scale went to 155-152ish but the muscle was there. Bodyfat was probably at that time 27 percent. So I came at it at a heavy point not a lean point. Now at this time I am 137 , bodyfat is about 22-21 percent doing this diet. So I went from fat to a muscular fat, to muscluar medium now with some nice definition coming along.

The other thing is its only 1 1/2 years of serious weightlifting. I actually had 8 years before that but broke my back so two years off now back. So I put it this way, I have a nice young muscle base/foundation. I need to get an older denser foundation, more cuts and shape foundation, plus get off another 10 lbs or 15 lbs.

The problem is my goals are always changing and would it be nice to be super lean, I dont know yet? I find it amazing that some women can get to 12 percent and lower. I need something that people will be like wow great arms, great abs but something I can live with for the rest of my life and KEEP.

Both sides of this HIIT cardio are interesting. I can hack it, listen I can hack just about anything at this point!! Do I like it, no. Do I feel like I have to do it two times a week, thats why I have all of you people. I guess I will do it one time a week and the other 3 days do the steady state and see how that goes. Thats a compromise because I am suppost to do it from this dude Layne Norton the diet guy wants 2 times aweek of HIIT. However I was one for never listening and always a rebel!

Thanks for all the great reading, I am getting there. I need to get a picture up soon so you people can see what I look like. I am honestly getting pretty good for ME!!

As far as the jello and cool whip, I am planning some little diddy here and there. Thanks Marilyn

Ohh one point I forgot to address, I live in the shower!!! I have the best pulsation massager. Does that answer the masterbation question. COme on IM MARRIED!!!

you know reading these over again Im a bit confused. I would love to do 45 minutes 4 days a week of moderate cardio. Now MM said she would need to do 1.5 to 3 hours of cardio thats for competition right?? I cant image doing that much. A regular joe would not need that much to lose bodyfat right????

I mean is it ok just to do 4 sessions at 45 minutes at moderate heart rate for a person like me???? Or should I do this HIIT crap 2 times a week. Know that you get where Im coming from, I have the diet in order 100 percent, its to lose bodyfat does have that calorie defecit.

Holy crap some people do 3 hours a day??? Honestly thats tough. I equate that to actually a cocaine high. When I was using coke, my heart rate was up for three hours straight constantly, so that was cardio back when I was drug loser!!!!
