Calves have fast twitch fibers..so hit em with high reps and conentrate on the form
i would do super sets of seated and standing calf raise,,,15 reps each 3-4 sets..they ahve to grow..

Do your cardio, on a incline treadmill leaning forward and walking with the tips of your toes. An idea by DC but trust me mate they will grow!!!

calves have both fast and slow twitch fibers. the soleus has primarily type I (slow twitch) which is resistant to fatigue because it is a postural muscle. the gastrocnemius is primarily type II (fast twitch), it is prone to fatigue but more powerful and operates anaerobically, so not for long.

seated calf raises pretty much isolate soleus
standing calf raises bring the gastrocnemius into play
like mikea said, walking on toes

Just think of fat people, like super obese, they also have massive calfs from walking with that weigth.

Thats how i believe DC started telling people to do it. It sucks doing it, but the results are good.

Remember the main theory behind muscle growth is muscle fiber recruitment. You want to recruit as many fibers as possible. The force they exert is constant and doesn't change..just dependnet on amount of fibers recruited. Soleus is isolated during seated calf raises and gastroc is hit during standing raises (knees not bent).

Thankfully, I was blessed with good genetics in the legs. Not too rub it in, but I only work my calves about once a month and my calves are about 18".

thats a big calf. some people are just born with that good calf gene. i worked them like a mad man for years and went from 14.5 to 15. every other muscle in my body reacts well to my diet and training. i guess i have to keep hitting them hard. dont know if you read my other thread but i totally killed them the other day and i havent been able to walk the last two days

That's when you know you had a GOOD workout! I hate the feeling of not being able to walk, but you know you hit them hard when that happens. It sucks though because sometimes when I walk, my leg muscles will stiffen up and I'll almost trip. I look like a complete idiot :laugh3:. Oh well. I wish my whole body was genetically engineered like my legs, but that's not the case unfortunately. The only thing you can do is keep up the work and SLAM your legs during workouts. Although they may grow slow, they will grow. Keep it up.

Some good suggestions guys. I think a lot of guys can read this post and take something from it. A while back when I was younger I even thought of getting calf implants. Not really but I did think about it for a min. And to the original poster just for the record I have heard guys say and I will say from personal experience that injecting in the calf for some reason can be temporarily crippling. I shoot in the calf one time and it was fucking unbelievable the pain I had… And I have injected all over the place one time or another tris. and Bies and even pecks and lats and traps and nothing ever bothered me like the calf injection..

I have always had good calfs even before starting resistance training on them. It was only till I had my running style analysed that I found out why I run on the toes gastroc working overtime.
