I know i'm supposed to change my routine every once in a while but i will be started my third week of the 5x5 on monday. How long do I wait before i change it up? I like the routine and want to keep doing the 5x5 until I hit a plateau. Should I just change the order of my exercises? I can't really add anything new because I don't have that much equipment and i'm doing all that I can.

after 3 weeks of 5x5 you should just be getting to some decent weights switching now wouldnt be wise unless youre not happy with the routine..

I dont like the idea of switching exercises unless one isnt working for you or you have reached a plateau with it..

if it aint broke dont fix it!!!

thanks, that was what I was thinking but my friend was telling me that I need to change my workout every two weeks, but i'm lovin the 5x5 right now, i'm gonna stick with it until I plateau

if you change your workout every two weeks yoll never gain any strength you need to beat the same exercises into your muscles so they can adapt and lift heavier.. if u want to change then change every 2 months.. personally ive done the same exercises and same order for 2 years.. i have yet to hit a plateauif u want a shock every now and then do a week of high volume like 30-40 sets per bodypart.. the one week of it here and there is enough to throw off your muscles and u can keep the 5x5 routine

i would not recommend 30-40 sets ever..

try this when you plateau drop the volume to 3x5 and keep addng 5 lbs each week..when you plateau there drop to 5x3 but keep adding 5 lbs..when you plateau ther go back to you original sticking point and try 5x5..

the other option would be to use a higher rep range 8-10 or maybe one all out work set

there is a small % of the population tha does very well on high volume like badrash is talking about. apparantly he is one of them.

sorry for bad advice.. i forgot that everybody's different, if i were to do low volume i'd say your best bet is to keep the routine you have, make sure you do the basics.. squats deads rows bench miltary presses etc. if you feel like you hit a plateau just try different angles to your exercises or cut certain ones out and add new ones.. no one can truly tell you how to lift you have to listen to your body's response to certain exercises if 5x5 works for you keep it if it doesnt produce any gains try modifying it...but i guess you shouldnt try my workout... cuz its what works for me
