my philospohy has always been : whats the point of living if you cant have fun...

i work 5 days a week, go to school all day on saturdays, train 6 days a week. those 6 days i eat by the book. I have specific diet and amounts of protein, carbs, fat, etc... i try to reach.

i give myself one day (sunday, like God) to rest. I "cheat". i live. I might drink a few beers. maybe eat a few slices of pizza. maybe have a couple dozen buffalo wings. i dont eat 10 big macs, but i dont adhere to my diet strictly, usually dont lift, i enjoy the day off.

does anyone else do something similar, or is this a serious disruption for my cycle and my overall goals? it usually results in extra time in the gym monday to balance it all out though...

I think it is alright to have a cheat day every week or two as long as it is limited to that.

I call it a carb day.

As far as the beer, well i don't drink.

Hell, You gotta live a little, Im on a diet too right before the beach season and all, but i still have a cheat day where i dont lift weight and eat shit as a mofo, One day a week wont do harm if you are strict the other 6 days. Relax and enjoy the day off.

Ok, I'll move this to the diet forum- you'll prolly get more replies there. Oh, and I, like many others, enjoy a cheat meal once a week; just depends on your metabolism. If you have a hard time losing fat, you shouldn't deviate for more than one meal. Good Luck!

Cheat days are essential to keep you sane and to keep you from craving food all the time. The fundamental philosophy should simply be to eat healthy on most days and enjoy some of the foods you like occasionally.

I used to hardly ever have a cheat day, but finally realized it gives your mind a needed break and cheating 1x per wk or 2 wks won't effect your progress/gains. So its actually beneficial in my eyes. I try and avoid the alcohol, but ya gotta live every now and then.

Every sunday i pig out and eat whatver i want.

Usually it is 3-4 huge meals with desserts at the end (cheescake, icecream)

I still drink my shakes and drink lots of water and take my vitamins on my cheat days.
The wendy's dollar menu does me well.

Don't call it a "cheat" day. By doing so, you're admitting that you're doing something you shouldn't be. How can you enjoy it anyway. You're fucking cheating.

I call it a "reward" day. If i've nailed my diet and had freakish workouts, I reward myself with a fun "what the fuck" meal every week or two. If I haven't hit it hard enough, no reward. You gotta earn it. If you take it without earning it, you're discipline and workout ethic is second rate.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but I've read in many places that a cheat day, is essential for dieting. I've read that it actually helps you Lose fat because for 6 days you're body is trying to shed fat but towards the end of that period it starts adapting to the routine and starts becoming more efficient at functioning with the reduced caloric intake. This is bad because it's less likely to shed fat that way. Well, the cheat days servers as a shock to your system and aloows your body to feel like it's ok to shed fat during the 6 day period becuase eventually it knows that it will get a dose of carbs/sugar at the end of the 7 day cycle. Apparently it's a hormone called leptin or lepitin that when levels of it are low, you body stores fat, when it's high, your body is more likely to release fat for fuel/energy.

Good philosophy. My favorite is when we go out for all you can eat sushi--some major competitive eating.

alright...so what if you have a cheat meal on a workout day??? do you cheat after a workout is that the best time for excess fats and carbs???

A cheat meal moments after a killer weight workout is ideal. The problem is scheduling the two.

I have a craving for big bacon cheese burgers so I try to make sure I eat them right after a nasty back work out.

so maybe do the workout and have a protein shake or something then start the cheating process???

I would say do the w/o have your PWO shake then have your cheat MEAL. Another I would do is make it happen before 6pm so that food isn't sitting in my gut turning to fat.
