Cholesterol Medicine while on TRT???

So I started TRT a year ago and it was heavenly. I felt better and stayed on my same diet with no exercise (knees hurt because I’m a lard ass) and dropped 70lbs in 3 months. Fast forward after changing jobs and losing insurance I had to get off. Well I can finally get back on it (after gaining 50lbs back in 4 months) but I had never had a blood pressure problem or cholesterol problem. My new doc is a family friend and sent me a prescription for cholesterol medication in the mail to save me a doc office co pay. I called him and told me my cholesterol is extremely elevated. Coincidence or side of TRT? Anyone have similar experiences?

TRT can lower (worsen) HDL. If anything it should lower (improve) LDL and Triglycerides. I would look at your diet, sleep and exercise habits.

Also, it is my two cents that docs are too quick to prescribe cholesterol meds. I would get a Cardiac Calcium Scan before considering going on the meds. If you pay out of pocket it should only cost about $100.

While I agree with Megatron, that HDL can suffer from Exogenous Test.

The LDL and Triglycerides are usually a Direct Reflection of Diet.
So you can do alot to Improve these numbers by Eliminating Processed Carbs/Sugars/Alcohol, from your Diet.

And I also agree 100%, that Doctors are much too quick to hand out Statins for Cholesterol Management.
There's lots of Serious Side Effects, that have a Direct Correlation to Statin use...................... JP

I'm a believer that diet has little to do with cholesterol, and also that cholesterol numbers have little to do with heart disease. They are a symptom, not a cause.

Your lifestyle sounds like shit if going on TRT causes loss of 70# and getting off gains 50# back. Not exercising is a massive mistake that drugs won't overcome.

You are on a bodybuilding AAS forum here, so you won't get much sympathy for a poor diet and total lack of exercise. You need to fix those things first before venturing into any drug use.

Diet and exercise first bro. Like our bro tankman just said ^^^. I would start with my diet and exercise to help your issues.......and the best part is there is no insurance required ;)
Cholesterol is mostly genetic it seems. If your doc determines that meds are required then i would take them for now.....and afyer diet and exercise were nailed down I would remove the meds and do further tests to see if they were still required. 3 of my very close friends have come off of cholesterol and blood pressure meds with nothing more than clean eating and 30 min a day of exercise (3 days gym and 30min of walking on the off days). Cheap, easy, and healthy way to resolve the issue. I don't know about you but I hate being a slave to any medications.......i hate it. Unfortunately it is very necessary sometimes.

Sorry for the rambling. Take the meds if you need to then try to stop after your eating and exercising have gotten where they need to be. Please update us when you've found your solution and let us know how your doing. We don't know you.....but we care ;)
Best of luck bro and God bless

Are you on doctor prescribed trt or self medicating? what dosages of test are you on and which test?? what else are you pinning? fix your diet too brotherman, and get in the gym and workout.

this isn't an issue of trt.. its your diet..

with a proper diet trt will actually help your lipid levels.. when i started trt my lipid levels dramatically improved..

shitty diet plus trt will lead to a worse lipid profile than shitty diet without trt..

and the fact that you lost 70lbs in 3 months tells me you were starving yourself... you killed your metabolism and when you started eating normally again you gained a lot of weight back..

its a mistake that many make when trying to lose weight.. they go to an extreme forgetting that the metabolism is adaptive and will go into starvation mode.
