Coconut Oil!

Cocoanut oil os probably one of the worst sources of Oil you can consume, sorry buddy some things are just too good to be true.

Man if you can handle the calories I would say that it is not a bad idea. My workout bud is an ecto and he downs cream so that he can get the extra calories in. I bet he is eating around 4k to 5k calories a day and he still keeps his 6-pack. Damn fucker......lol

Unbelievable...wish that was me too.

There seems to be some controversy here then. I did a search on Google and there are a lot of positive reviews like:

Anyone else tried this?

This is curious then...I mean I believe you as experts, but can you elaborate as to why? Just about everything I can find on the web is positive:

"Researchers have clearly shown that the oil from coconuts, a plant source, acts comletely differently than the saturated fat from animal sources. The oil from coconuts is unique in nature and provides many health benefits unobtainable from any other source."

What Coconut Oil DOES NOT Do: * Does not contain cholesterol. * Does not increase blood cholesterol level. * Does not promote platelet stickiness which leads to blood clot formation. * Does not contribute to atherosclerosis or heart disease. * Does not promote cancer or any other degenerative disease. * Does not contribute to weight problems.

What Coconut Oil DOES Do: * Reduces risk of atherosclerosis and related illnesses. * reduces risk of cancer and other degenerative conditions. * Helps prevent bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. * Supports immune system function. * Helps prevent osteoporosis. * Helps control diabetes. * Promotes weight loss. * Supports healthy metabolic function. * Provides an immediate source of energy. * Supplies fewer calories than other fats. * Supplies important nutrients necessary for good health. * Improves digestion and nutrient absorption. * Has a mild delicate flavor. * Is highly resistant to spoilage (long shelf life. * Is heat resistant (the healthiest oil for cooking. * Helps keep skin soft and smooth. * Helps prevent premature aging and wrinkling of the skin. * Helps protect against skin cancer and other blemishes.

Also I should note that it is Organic Virgin Non-Hydrogenated Coconut Oil...

---------------------------------------------------------

Is Coconut Oil Bad for you? Hardly.

There is widespread misconception that coconut oil is bad for you because it is said to raise blood cholesterol and cause heart disease. The only so-called "proof" is one four-decades old study that study used hydrogenated coconut oil.

It is now known that the process of hydrogenation creates "trans fatty acids" (TFAs), which are toxic entities that enter cell membranes, block utilization of essential fatty acids (EFAs) and impede cell functionality. TFAs also cause a rise in blood cholesterol. These substances are NOT present in natural organic coconut oil.

In other words, a study based on hydrogenated coconut oil has absolutely no relevance to the non-hydrogenated coconut milk or coconut oil.

Widespread studies of coconut-consuming populations such as those found in Polynesia and Sri Lanka, show that "dietary coconut oil does not lead to high serum cholesterol nor to high coronary heart disease." Other studies show no change in serum cholesterol level from coconut oil, and may be beneficial in preventing heart disease.

Coconut Oil as Saturated Fat

Another reason people believe coconut oil must be bad for you is misguided association: it is a saturated fat and "saturated fats are bad for you." Dietary guidelines inevitably fail to distinguish between different kinds of saturated fats and insist that saturated fats (meaning all saturated fats) are harmful.

This is not just misleading - it is bad science. Leading scientists now recognize that just as there is good cholesterol, there are also good saturated fats.

Fats are classified as short-, medium- or long-chain based on the number of carbon molecules they contain. Nearly two-thirds of the saturated fat in coconut oil consists of medium-chain fatty acids.

When we eat long-chain fatty acids, they must be emulsified by bile salts in the small intestine before they can be absorbed into our body. Short- and medium-chain fatty acids, such as those in coconut milk, are absorbed directly through the portal vein to the liver, where they are immediately available to the body.

In other words, the saturated fat in coconut oil is easily digestible and converted into quick energy.

And these types of fatty acids are not likely to cause obesity because they are immediately used by the body and have no opportunity to be stored.

>>I thought tropical oils were unhealthy. What makes Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil different?

Early researchers failed to distinguish between saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. They assumed all fats (including coconut oil) were unhealthy because they raised serum cholesterol levels. But in revisiting those studies, researchers discovered that all fats are not created equal. Newer research proves saturated fats rich in the medium chain fatty acids like those found in Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil are very beneficial. In the body, lauric acid, which accounts for 50-55% of the total fatty acids in Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, converts to monolaurin, a powerful monoglyceride that destroys viruses, bacteria and fungi.

>>What makes this coconut oil extra "virgin?"

Unlike refined coconut oils, Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is not hydrogenated, bleached, refined or deodorized. It is produced using the same methods Filipino farmers have used for thousands of years. Meat extracted from only the freshest, organically grown coconuts is shredded and cold-pressed to make coconut milk. The milk is left to ferment 24-36 hours, during which time the oil separates. The end-product is an aromatic coconut oil that retains its taste, aroma and nutritional value for a very long time. In fact, Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil has a longer shelf life than any other plant oil.

>>How does Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil benefit my health?

Although many people equate fat with weight gain, clogged arteries and high blood pressure, certain fats actually help prevent those conditions and are essential to good health. Coconut oil has been shown to reduce the symptoms of digestive disorders and support overall immune function.

In addition, a study conducted in Yucatan, where coconut oil is a staple, showed metabolic rates of people living there to be 25% higher than in comparable test subjects living in the U.S. Increased metabolic rate is a key to healthy weight management and could account for the leanness of people living in areas where coconut oil is consumed on a daily basis.

>>What makes Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil better than other coconut oils?

Because Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is traditionally prepared and minimally processed, it retains all of its medium-chain fatty acids and other beneficial compounds. Refined versions may have a bland or burnt taste as a result of the refinement process. Additionally, Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil delivers the aroma and flavor of fresh coconuts.

Garden of Life™ Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is the healthiest and most versatile unprocessed dietary oil in the world. Once thought to be a "bad" fat, coconut oil has been proven to be a stable, healthy saturated fat that can help maintain proper cholesterol levels, support thyroid function, ease digestive disorder symptoms, avert hypoglycemia cravings and provide many other health benefits.

Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil contains lauric acid along with other medium-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids are quickly metabolized and converted to energy in the body, rather than being stored as fat. Garden of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is made with only the freshest, organically grown coconuts.

Most everything that's NATURAL has good and bad sides to it (the trans fats that come from partial hydrogenation are not natural). There's no denying that natural Saturated fats have some health benefits in moderation. Coconut Oil has some beneficial Saturated fats, but get too gung ho with the Coconut Oil and you will feel the wrath of its MCT's by spending more time in the bathroom than you'd probably like to.

all i know is coconut oil is really good for your hair if youve got a thinning or receding hairline. just rub it in a few times a week, and you will definitley notice it getting thicker after a few weeks of use. diet wise, not the best, opt for flax instead.

Yeah I grind up flaxseed in a coffee grinder and mix in water also.

I only use the coconut oil in my morning shake...haven't gained any excess weight and I've dropped bfp 2.5% in two weeks.

well i'm a fitness major, and when oil's are broen down bro, there are 3 types of fats
