Cortisol question

Bullseye Forever

Prince of Darkness
im 45 years old and as alot of men my age,i have the body fat around my belly,i have severe anxiety disorders and worry, stress all the time, which sometimes cause the release of the hormone cortisol to accumalate,is there any thing besides cardio and diet to help get rid of this,i eat clean and healthy, but i just cant get rid of the excess fat,im not fat per say, just a few extra inches around my belly.....any help would me appreciated

Have you had your cort levels checked before?

I only ask because, like estrogen, symptoms of high cortisol and symptoms of low cortisol can mimic eachother, leading you to not know whether you have high or low cortisol.

If it is high, then I mean some OTC options off the top of my head, are obviously high dose vit C. It's water soluble, so don't feel bad about running it fairly high. Raising your DHEA will also lower your cortisol...and vice versa.

Supps specifically for this are things like lean xtreme, heck of a product, great for cort control. Supress C I have not used, but hear good things.

Glutamine?

Try adding some L-Glutamine to your supplement arsenal. Should help blunt cortisol levels, which in turn would help maximize your test among other benefits.

Testosterone inhibits cortisol from producing. If you're on it then your problem is more than likely your diet and/or cardio, well your lack of. I can't be there to see what you eat and how much you get your heart rate up to during cardio, but if you cheating, it only hurts yourself.

I would look at estrogen, free test, and SHBG as reasons for possible insulin resistance before assuming cortisol was doing all of that. 5-htp to control your nerves...

Bullseye,

Definitely stress can create high cortisol levels.
You really need to control your stress level, I know that's sometimes nearly impossible living in such stressful times.
You can try meditation, believe it or not breathing excercises can really help you relax.
Eating right & a good diet can also help,
eat six small meals and do not skip them, skipping meals create a cortisol release.
Also high carb intake creates cortisol release in response to constantly elevated insulin levels.

Hope u get this under control :)
