Cortisone for Shoulder Pain...Cycle Advice...

Hey guys, I read a few old threads with people asking about cortisone shots while on cycle. But I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with cortisone shots as far as relief and whether it's permanent or just a masking medication. I'm not on a cycle right now.

One of my buddies talked me into playing softball about 7 weeks ago...I hadn't thrown a ball of any kind since I last played baseball, which was in college about 7 years ago. Needless to say, I completely screwed my shoulder up. Was having significant pain with any external rotation or pressing movement or raising arm over head.

So I laid off any lifting that caused pain for 6 weeks and went to the orthopedic surgeon last week. I was kinda expecting him to tell me he thought I needed to get an MRI since the pain had lasted for 6 weeks with little relief. Instead, he felt it was probably inflammation, and a cortisone shot would be a good idea, and may permanently fix the problem. So I got it, and damn, my shoulder feels incredible 8 days later. I literally do not have any pain.

Any of you guys with experience with cortisone, is this relief most likely temporary or can cortisone completely remedy a problem? I'm wondering because I really am wanting to do a Test cycle, but I would hate to start one and get midway through it and the cortisone wear off and be with a bummed shoulder mid cycle. What do you guys think? I'm considering starting the cycle at the end of August. Go for it or lay off? And if lay off, how long should I give it to see whether the cortisone is a remedy or temporary?

I really hope this is a permanent fix...would be amazing. Thanks for any advice! Have learned a lot from reading what ya'll have to say just in the short time I've been on here.

The shit works. I used it when I played football (US football). The downside is you can end up with permant joint damage. I have bad meniscus in both knee from taking cortisone shots. I've been to two spots medicane specialist and both of them said my damage was a result of use. Keep in mind I did not take one shot. I have 12-15 shots over a five year period.

Ya it does work but it is a temporary fix. I had a partially torn hip labrum and had to get a few shots in my hip but if you keep using that muscle it is just doing more damage to it and the pain will come back if you are not letting it heal and rehab.

I think this was a one time effort as far as relying on them to heal. If pain returns he said we would do an MRI...kinda wish he had just ordered one from the get go. I had a labrum repair when I was playing college baseball, so my shoulder isn't now to injury. Oh well...working for now...maybe I'll get lucky and it will resolve. Thanks for advice.

I've been doing rotator cuff band rehab stuff this week and plan to continue that. As far as laying off it, kinda hard to keep doing since I had to do that for 6 weeks from the get go. I guess I will find out over a bit of time here whether it was just a little inflammation or if there is an actual injury. I'll probably wait for a follow up to see what happens before starting the cycle. Thanks man.

all cortisone did for me was mask the pain so I went back to my regular training, then when it wore off I had done more damage to my shoulder. my 2cnts.

Go for the cortizone. I had one shot in my right shoulder and it fixed my impingement. I had an mri first to cinfirm there were no tears.

Had two shots in my left with the same problem (after contrast MRI, no tears) and it only worked for a week each time. I delayed surgery and lifted heavy and that actually fixed the shoulder.

MRI is the key to ensuring you are not masking any tears.

Should last about 2-3 months just make sure you dont keep getting them as thats a big needle they use scar tissue can become an issue

I won't let him give me another one without an MRI first. I wish he would have just given me the cortisone AND ordered me an MRI from the get go to verify injury or not. Oh well. I'm gonna request an MRI when I go for my follow up. Really, really hoping this is not an injury that will require surgery, that would absolutely be devastating as far as training goes...

You'll be fine if you dont push it for a few weeks. If it wears off quickly then it may be a tear.

Avoid surgery at all costs, get a second and third opinion if at all possible. My first ortho said she saw a tear on my labrum and the second ortho agreed with the radiologist and saw no tear. Bith recomended surgery but the first would have been far more invasive. A year later and im totally healed with no surgery. The best thing i learned was how to train without stressing my shoulder joint.

Had to get a few shots of it, helped almost immediately but my bone spurs would still come back and hurt. I ended up not lifting for a year to recover from wrist issues and my bone spurs and wrist problems were gone. My bone spur faintly hurts once in a blue moon but nowhere as near as when it did years ago.

too many shots of it and i hear you could damage your cartilidge there.

...the shit works though.
